If anything, modern hip hop has now started to show advancement and tolerance for different groups of people, it was incredibly homophobic back in the day, now you have artists like Macklemore and Ryan Lewis who are quite openly saying that they support gay rights.
Even Eminem was homophobic back at the start of his career, but he only did it really as it was the "in thing", when interviewed he said he had no problem with anyone that didn't have a problem with him.
People like Notorious B.I.G. and even 2Pac were massively discriminatory too, and they were big in the 90s.

And there are plenty of actually gay rappers like Le1f, Mykki Blanco and Zebra Katz too.
Thing is rap/hip-hop has diversified so much that people look at things that are the same as they were before and say "it hasn't changed", when there's Outkast, Kanye, Nikki Minaj and others actually doing all sorts of things musically and lyrically that aren't seen anywhere else - and that's absorbed by other genres and they take influences in turn (see Kanye & Daft Punk with Stronger).

At all.

Far better to stick to mindless hippityhop generic pap, and of course dubstep (which is apparently breaking wind into a microphone and letting the computer do all the work, from what I can tell). Dance has been in a mindless, repetitive rut ever since the mid 90's. Rock......Kerrang are doing their best to make it all staid and generic, but there's so much out there!

The demo tape was of a song the record company said would never be played, because it was too long, to grand in scale for any radio show. Kenny played that song several times on his show the following day, and indeed the following week.

That song, written off by the record company, and swiped by Kenny Everett? Bohemian Rhapsody.

Couldn't do that now (well, you could swipe the demo). But there's a playlist. Set seemingly according to whichever producer passed the thickest brown envelope that week.

He had his show on Radio 1 for yonks. And if you sent him a demo tape. He'd listen to it. Every. Single. One.

Then, signed or not, if he liked it, he'd play it. And this is how a great, great many British bands go their break into the music industry. Because of one man with a radio show who took his music seriously.

Didn't matter what your genre was, he'd listen to that demo, and if you were good, he'd play you.

I think the criticism about the noise of genres that you do not like are universal, modern jazz for instance is just a noise to me. Similiarly, some of the most extreme death metal acts, they are audio violence, but where is the melody? I have recently been developing a taste for EBM and stuff, which previously I would avoid.

Unfortunately on commerical radio you will only have popular stuff which measn that all the radio stations play the same music that the three record companies tell them to play.

You either need a proper independent radio, which is small enough that doesn't need to worry about listenership. Or, the Beeb. I remember the rock show, that was quite cool, they used to broadcast live from gigs, which was mixed results.

Like Ginger, of the Wildhearts, telling the audience that he has been told he isn't allow to swear, so got the audience to do so instead...

Kerrang Radio used to have an unsigned radio show then in a battle of the bands type thing wouild work to get them a contract with a rock label...

John Peel was brilliant, he played anything that wasn't main stream pop. New stuff from very Heavy Metal to Progressive trance. I was introduced to all manner of good music though his show. Zane Lowe tries to do the same and I have discovered some great bands though listening to him but Peel was decades ahead of his time.

This is the new GeForce GTX 750 Ti at around the £120 mark. So while it still rocks the same 750 performance it has new architecture so can do it much more efficiently, less power, less heat. Which in the view of looking towards small form factor is quite attractive. Only single height as well so doesn't take up too much room.

Will be interesting to see what the third party makes of this.

There's also a lot of colonial era arrogance in there (them, not you).

Seems the European Empires were utterly baffled that any culture could have exceeded them at any point in anything, and it permeated into edumacation, and continues to do so to this day.

People seem to think Pyramids are astoudning, but as you said, with enough slave labour, it's actually pretty straight forward when you think about it.

It wasn't even slave labour, it was sort of a draft system. Each village sent a bunch of men to the site to work for a season or to worksites to mine stone and such. People tend to forget that the human brain hasn't changed/hardly changed in a hundred thousand years or more, people in the past were not stupid, just uneducated and in ancient Egypt there was an educated class if they didn't have the same knowledge we have today. They knew an awful lot though and pyramid building, as the article says, was something that developed over millennia. From the brick mastabas to stone mastabas to the early proto-pyramids like the stepped pyramid of Djoser and the bent pyramid and finally the true pyramids. There is even a devolution as the kingdom could no longer sustain the expense of giant stone pyramids later ones became smaller and brick cored faced in stone.
The only way you can argue they weren't made by the Egyptian is being a giant ****ing moron.

'forget' to tell the cleaners what the new art installation is and you have a perfect, unquestionable way of getting the payout as the cleaner will usually come right out and say they didn't know it was art. It's not just what it is (a room full of badly made clay men) but what they represent. The field of the British isles was made not just by the artist but children from primary schools and just regular folks that volunteered. If you look closely there's also different shades of clay which I guess represent all the different races in our country too. All together. I think it's rather wonderful and when I saw it for real, it was rather moving too.

No ? He brought people from community's the world over to make these "people" which then traveled around in his exhibition. If you ever get to see it you will also notice a large plaque with everyone's name on it who contributed. There's also a video about its construction.

Morning all, good weekends?

Saturday, I finally diagnosed my home PC's errors as being down to a motherboard issue, meaning I need a new one. Bad timing.

Better news, I managed to build some skellies for my VC army and decided to make it a Game of Thrones inspired force. I plan to include heroes such as Dead Stark, Deadnerys Stormborn - Mummy of dragons, Petyr Bale-liche (necro on corpse cart, balefire upgrade) and Diewin Lannister. Troops are to be winter themed, and will include GoT nods and cheeky bits, like Wights of the Flowers, and the unskullied.

This has me quite excited to pick up tools and get cracking, and should help me keep to my Sigmar's Blood series with my brother. For anyone interested i'll be tracking this in the BOLS Warhammer plog boards (thread in my sig.)

sigh, I loved Dr Egon Spengler in the Ghostbusters films, Harold played the character excellently, if they ever do make Ghostbuster three he will sorely be missed...

Though I feel now because of his tragic passing they won't make it....
