But after the third or fourth pint do you notice what you're drinking anymore?
You need to plan and strategise.
For a beer festival you need
- Tasting note book
- Pencil (pens become tricky)
- Beer menu
Step one: Sample each of the ales on tap as halves
(note 1: this is the only time that drinking halves is acceptable)
(note 2: it is acceptable to omit "american" and "craft" "beer")
Step two: Take notes of each beer
Step three : Determine the King of the Festival ( a combination of flavour, drinkablity and price)
Step four: Put away the pencil, note book, and half pinter, change up to pint glass (or larger) and quaff away.

Because whilst a few are in fact worthy of being celebrated, on account of talent/good works etc......
The vast, vast majority are simply famous for being utterly pointless.
The ones worth keeping aren't the ones who keep turning up like bad pennies, spread across every medium of tedium.

I absolutely accept that in this industry there is comment and criticism. There will always be bad reviews: such is the nature of a free press and free speech. When you put your work out there, you are accepting the fact that people will comment on it, but it is your choice whether you read it or not.
What I do not accept, however, is that it is all right for people to make comments ranging from "a bit sexist but generally harmless" to openly sexually aggressive. That it is something that "just happens". Is the casual objectification (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_objectification#Sexual_objectification_of_w omen) of women so commonplace that we should all just suck it up, roll over and accept defeat? I hope not. Objectification, whatever its form, is not something anyone should have to "just deal with"

So I get approached by a civil servant for some information, being the curious person I was like, hmm, what's that for? They explained that it was part of this new project. Jokingly, I replied, oh is that this project (name redacted) that I am already doing some work for? No he replied. Oh I said, so we have two different projects looking at the same issue with the same deliverables but completely unaware of each other, that's efficient....
Sometimes I think life would be so much better if these government departments were working privately...

Wolfshade
05-09-2014, 05:40 AM
Yes, for instance, the most undertook journey is between J14 to J15 with some 2.9 million journeys per month, manages an (unweighted) average speed of 64mph, with 72% of journeys at 60mph or more, though only 16% of the time it occurs the expected (or better) speeds.
Mr Mystery
05-09-2014, 05:47 AM
Not bad!
Though I do wonder what the median, rather than actual average speed is. After all, a 10mph crawl in crappy traffic can be made up for by some goon in a sportscar tanking along at 130mph when it's quiet*.
*Ideal time to do it, as fewer people are witnesses to laugh at your clear trouser department concerns :p

Oh, and apparently, according to Nigel Farage, the reason we never win Eurovision is because nobody likes us in Europe (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-27339143). And because we don't do well in Eurovision, Cameron wouldn't be able to negotiate a stronger position for us.
Now, some might say he's clutching at straws here, but let's take a serious look......
1. It's Eurovision
2. Nobody really cares all that much about winning Eurovision
3. Dear god man....IT'S EUROVISION
4. We select crap songs.
5. Probably on purpose
6. IT'S EUROVISION.
7. He must be getting desperate.

We clearly don't take it seriously enough to ever bother actually trying to win. Seriously. Look at the drivel we submit year after year.

There are some very good Indian tailors that visit London and the other larger cities that do very reasonable bespoke suits if you don't want to splash out on Savile Row.:p
Mr Mystery

True that, and my Dad speaks highly of Indian Tailors. When on business, he could be measured in the morning, and pick up his suit in the evening.

Some of them are every bit as good as Savile Row and some are even Savile Row trained but work out of India because it is so much cheaper. They tend not to have as broad a selection of cloth which can be an issue if you want something specific or something unusual. They struggle more making mens style suits for women in my experience too, the older Savile Row firms cope better but whateves, they get it done perfectly well in the end.
Mr Mystery
05-11-2014, 05:03 AM
Awesome.
And I dare say you don't get the snootiness of Saville Row to boot.
Reckon four tailored suits ought to be about right, bought over a period of time. Though I'll also have to admit to being Middle Class, and Middle Aged and buy a trouser press.

How can you get animation so right, yet suck so horribly at film?
Marvel's films work really well, possibly because they're all part of the same world. Their animation can be a bit touch and go, but are rarely considered dire (though not a fan of motion comics. Just seem lazy to me) and their comics I find to be damned good (except oddly, X-Men that I find difficult to get into).

the Vatican believes it must have a big hand in meddling with people and laws all over the world, interfering in people's lives, condemning millions to death in Africa, driving anti gay measures around the world, covering up crimes, sheltering priests from the law, but none of it is actually their fault, they are innocent of everything and cannot be held responsible for their members...

If you have a belief system that is codified into rules, like say the church of rome, then anyone who opposes those rules or speaks out against them is creating a heresey and as such the tell you how to handle them. Those firm foundations on the one hand makes the church very easy to withstand time and pressure, on the other it is a massive failing in my opinion. After all the whole point of Christ was to move people away from the rules (10 Commandments, 613 rules...) to living my grace.

Also, the Alicorn wings are too small it would never fly. And would glide as gracefully as a rock.

They fly through magic, not physics the wings obviously just store flight magic

Back of envelope calculation.
(In the stylings of What-If XKCD)
Typically birds lift work out to be between 10 - 20 kg/m^2, so let us assume that the Alicorn feather can be a little bit more sturdy up to 25 kg/m^2.
A throughbread weighs about 600kg, now let us assume that the extra muscles and wings add a further 100kg, giving us a 700kg weight to lift.
So each wing would need to be about 14m^2
Typically, the wings attach between the shoulder and the hip, so say a maximum length of about 1.5m
Meaning our wing would need to be about 9m long...
Though I could seriously be underestimating the muscle mass and wing weight.

Magic Wolfie, Magic! :D
Also pegasus are acknowledged as having a lighter build. So the weights might be high.
Wolfshade
05-13-2014, 06:59 AM
Halving the weight you still need a 5m wing! and I think I am massively understimating the muscle needed to flap such beasts. Look at birds, they are mostly chest, needed to propel their wings...

So 6 months into my dispute with the council and it looks like they are going to try and claim that it isn't their's to maintain. So back to the Land Registry to get the details to send to them to prove it is their fudgecaking fence.
Surely, though it doesn't takle 6 months to try and fob someone off with that.
They can pay for that search and for the cost of my repairs so far...

I am just very angry because of it. Had they, in December 2013, when I first raised my complaint said, that it wasn't theirs or it was a shared boundary then fine but 6months late to the ball and after I had confirmation from the land registry it makes me mad. Madder than having to pay to have my green waste collected. Bring out the cannon!

In some literature and media, it is also referred to as an alicorn, which is a historical word for the horn of a unicorn.[1]
1. In the early episodes of the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic television series, the species is not specifically named; for example, the sisters Celestia and Luna were referred as unicorns in first season's première episode "Friendship Is Magic - part 1" despite having wings.[5] However, an amulet with a pair of wings and a horned head of a horse is referred as the "Alicorn Amulet" in the third season's fifth episode "Magic Duel" (written by M. A. Larson),[6] and the species is explicitly named "alicorn" in its season finale "Magical Mystery Cure" (also written by Larson).[7]
