"Human collective behavior can vary from calm to panicked depending on social context. Using videos
publicly available online, we study the highly energized collective motion of attendees at heavy metal
concerts. We find these extreme social gatherings generate similarly extreme behaviors: a disordered
gaslike state called a mosh pit and an ordered vortexlike state called a circle pit. Both phenomena are
reproduced in flocking simulations demonstrating that human collective behavior is consistent with the
predictions of simplified models."

This is how I complain:

Ten commandments for bureaucrat bashing

1. Never say anything clearly. When writing to jobsworths and timeservers, word your letter so that it could mean almost anything…or nothing.

2. Don’t be legible. Always write letters by hand, and make your verbose scrawl as impenetrable as possible.

3. Garble your opponent’s name. Misread the signature. If the correspondence is signed ‘M. Harris’, address your reply to ‘N. Hayes’ or ‘W. Hardy’. Don’t get too flippant though — the penpushers might lack a sense of humour, but if you write to ‘M. Hedgehog’, they will sense a legpull.

4. Give fake references. If you have a letter from the tax office, ref: EH/4/PNG/H8, mark your reply with some other code in the same format, such as DC/5/IMH/R9. This should ensure that the taxman wastes minutes, or hopefully hours, rooting for a file that doesn’t exist.

5. The same goes for dates. Get them slightly wrong, every time.

6. Follow up your fakes. Write to request a reply to letters that you haven’t sent, and include bogus reference numbers. This is a surefire timewaster and might even, if your Twitmarsh is of a sensitive disposition, reduce him to tears.

7. Never pay the right amount. Include a discrepancy in every envelope — never too much, but always more than a few pence. A sum between £1.20 and £2.80 is recommended. Then you can start an interminable correspondence to reclaim the overpayment (or dispute the underpayment).

8. When enclosing a cheque, staple it to the letter. With two staples. Or three. Right in the middle of the cheque. At the least, you’ll waste someone’s time — at best, you might wreck their computer.

9. As a point of honour, never give up on a correspondence before at least six pointless letters have been exchanged. Think big and aim for double figures.

10. If a postage-paid envelope is not supplied by your Twitmarsh, send off your reply without a stamp. The bureaucrats will have to pay much more at the other end.

Mr Mystery

Anyway apparently this is a thing...

I’d just like to point out that 50 Shades of Grey was Twilight fanfic and Twilight was inspired by Muse so when you think about it, it’s kinda because of Muse that 50 Shades was written in the first place oh

And Muse came from England which traces its roots back to the Anglo-Saxons and Romans, so really, in the end, Julius Caesar wrote 50 Shades of Grey.

- A sadist is a masochist who follows the Golden Rule (do unto others as you would have them do unto you).

- If there is an afterlife, nothing we do on Earth matters. Our life is merely a phase of testing to determine where we spend our eternity.

- If there is no afterlife, nothing we do on Earth matters. Our achievements will eventually be forgotten, our cities and cultures crumble to dust, and even our progeny will cease to recall our lives.

- All sexual preferences are sub-categories of “If it’s hot, **** it” school of thought. Test it out: You’re a dude and you think women are hot? **** em! You’re a dude and you think other dudes are hot? **** em! You’re an intergalactic mushroom who has deep seated feelings of lust/love for your room-mate, who turns out to be an immortal cyborg from a rival race of aliens, who are also hellbent on plundering Earth’s resources? **** em, and then try and get a sitcom or a reality TV series started, cause that’s awesome.

- Lastly, if you rage whenever another race/army/faction/class gets a OP level buffing, try to recall that the people who play those races/armies/factions/classes rarely if ever get a say in what happens to their chosen r/a/f/c, and may often be quite upset to be hated on for no reason other then that they enjoy their r/a/f/c, and have done so since before the buffs. But if they act like twits about it (ex. ur just butthurt because u play bolter *****es, ****** hurr hurr hurr) you have my solemn blessing to light everything they love on fire.

Wolfshade
06-13-2013, 02:44 AM
Worryingly I saw Golden Rule and though instead of the golden ratio.

The trouble with the golden rule is if you and the person you are recpricating with have different values.

Imagine that you love bacon, not a stretch.
Now I would love it if people give me bacon sandwiches and indeed it does happen from time to time.
So, by the golden ruloe I give a person a bacon sandwich as a good gesture. They then are deeply offended as they are jewish/muslim/veggiterian
So you have just broken the rule by trying to fulfil the rule.

06-13-2013, 02:55 AM

Now promises of this kind have been made many times before. Sometimes they’ve come true, sometimes they have now. But I’m told to expect, among others, a full Evil Of The Daleks from 1967. Up till now, the BBC only had the second of seven episodes, after that film was found in a car boot sale.

I dunno. It's very plausible....

It could even mildly garbled, as 'The Invasion' had a few episodes replaced with animation. Far as I'm aware, there are numerous recordings of the audio of missing episodes, so a concerted effort to do more is a distinct possibility, especially given the 50th anniversary!

For me, I'd give the conspiracy theorists pukka reasons to start a 'GW's been sold' thread. I would also employ a real life Eversor to resolve the CHS issue permanently.

It's a moot point. I'm having that jackpot, thank you very much!! £122,000,000??? Oh the things I could do with that!

I don't usually post celebrity fashion nonsense ('cos I don't usually pay any attention to what they are wearing...) But this is nice:

My favourite comedian bar none.:) Also, really? You're worried about how the media depicts men as fathers now? Fudge that, worry about how the media systematically objectifies, sexualises and infantalises women first while taking away our voice and demeaning those of us who are successful.

But when Freegard says, "The type of jokes aimed at dads would be banned if they were aimed at women, ethnic minorities or religious groups", she has got a point – just not the one she thinks she's got. Men and fathers are so favoured in our society, the world is weighted so much to their advantage, that comedy writers can safely make them the perpetual butt of jokes. The fact that Homer Simpson is the funniest, most prominent and most popular character in that show says far more about continued male dominance of money and power in the west than his fecklessness or misfortunes say about the undervaluing of paternal effort.
<3 David Mitchell.

it would be nice to have more female comedians, I am essentially 50% david mitchell and 50% charlie brooker, with maybe a smattering of jimmie carr... only with larger breasts. whilst I like a lot of female stand ups there is not really the same range of characters that the men enjoy.

yeah the final point about homer being the main character and being the bumbling one because men are in the strongest positions is a fantastic observation

Pics or it didn't happen.:p Just kidding. I do have this funny image of someone stuffing half of David Mitchell and Charlie Brooker in a blender though.

Agreed.:(

Yep, easy to make yourself look bumbling when you hold most of the power. You don't actually lose anything by it, then you get twits like this womans group coming to your defense.

Smattering of Jimmy Carr?

Guess everyone has an inner bully! Can't stand that ****. Being a bit sarcastic about things isn't comedy, or even a talent.

10 O'Clock live is like my perfect comedy really, my three favourite comedians and the lovely lauren laverne to offer a nice balance for them all. watching things like Brooker's Newswipe I do find myself agreeing with everything he says, all the time, even his articles and things. combine that with Mitchell's pedantry and olde fashionedyness it is me :p

I like both Jo Brand and Sarah Millacan (not sure if that's correct). Jack Dee really appeals to my inner grumpiness. Rich Hall is cool. Not a stand up comedian per se but enjoyable all the same is Stephan Fry. The sketch show he did with Hugh Laurie was brilliant. Jimmy Carr, tax avoiding, horrible, nasty ****.
My favorite all time, Tommy Cooper.

I find Jimmy Carr ruins it....

DM: cleverly clever witty remark....hint of posh.
CB: yeah, but cleverly clever scathing witty remark, grumble sod.
LL: something funny.
JC: erm.....bum. Willy. Uncalled for personal remark/painfully obvious comment, sans warmth and wit.

Kirsten
06-16-2013, 07:23 AM
there is far more to it that sarcasm and he only makes personal remarks about people that invite them, and he does it pretty equally. I completely disagree about the warmth too, he enjoys himself and connects with people. one thing I love to see is a comedian laughing at other people's jokes, means they are not being snobbish or think they are funnier than others, and Jimmy finds everybody funny, he just enjoys himself.
