But have you read the original?
Start here (http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?22184-The-Off-Topic-Thread-(the-BEST-thread-ever!))

I read the first few pages, much about peoples jobs/working life (seems very different to mine!) but alas I didn't have time to read the hundreds of pages! Good to find a solid number of Brits on here though!

Also sorry for pointing it out, it is a douchebag move, but rogue apostrophes irritate me to 11.

Not at all. I'm frankly appalled it crept in there in the first place, as it's the sort of thing that gets to me, too! Not quite as irritating as the use of the word, "unorganised" versus "disorganised" though!

Speaking as former senior management (now MD)

No. Just the bad ones.

Personally, I read the first paragraph of anything fully. If it makes the grade, I'll dedicate time to reading the rest properly, otherwise, it goes back. If I read it and like it, I allow a greater degree of automation for the next submission.

I've definitely worked with a number of people that fall into the lazy category, though!

If it does, it will splinter, smaller local groups without a central point of contact, wihtout a central governance. Without a single hand on the rudder. Smaller groups to define themselves will become more extreme as they become concentrated and more seperate from a wide society.

In a similiar way, there are many south africans who are very concerned about what will happen when Mandela dies, he was a moderate and stopped some more of the extreme members who wanted to punish the whites, had he not been at the helm it could have been a person like Mugabe, and we all know how well that turned out.

Cynically, it is not good timing.
Nothing unites two opposing peaceful factions as a military threat. If DPRK were to do something it could unit the senate and congress. Instead, it would be better to wait for the US to be involved in an intractable war in syria and other arab uprising countires then when the military is stretched then do something.

But the counter rallies are often worse, remember 'splogy's account of the anti-edl rally in Sheffield.
The rally in birmingham was very well attended but was not troublesome from either side.

I wonder if hilter's brownshirts were considered a brainless bunch when they failed their putsch. No I am not saying that that is most probably timeline/evolvement but it might.
Politcally, they are a non-entity, if they were to be politcised (firstly no party would want to be associated with them) and secondly it would then have yet another right party to split the vote (currently Tory & UKIP) though they are centre right rather than right.

Huzzah! Though the search for the "God Particle" isn't as fun as the search for the "Naked Bottom"

Two scientists have won the Nobel prize in physics for their work on the theory of the Higgs boson.

Peter Higgs, from the UK, and Francois Englert from Belgium, share the prize.

In the 1960s, they were among several physicists who proposed a mechanism to explain why the most basic building blocks of the Universe have mass.

The mechanism predicts a particle - the Higgs boson - which was finally discovered in 2012 at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at Cern, in Switzerland.

The trouble with SWG was when they took all the classes, deleted them and basically restarted the whole game anew. It turned a game with depth and a solid foothold in the starwars universe into a children's mmo It ruined it for any long term players like myself who had spent a very long time developing their characters and invested time into the game. The game became complete pants form then on. It was called a NGE for new game experience. And it killed the game.

Imagine playing the current Starwars mmo and waking up to find after two years, all your progress, xp, game items, your class abilities, your guild, your in game home, starship, everything gone. You may have spent months training to become a Jedi. All gone.

Sorry rant over. I miss my Wookie Teras Kasi Master very much.

Actually, in this case you had to go back and erase every change you made until you reached the initial event, rescuing your future girlfriend from getting murdered by her crazy dad, but realizing that if you don't let her die then your best childhood friend will die, so you have to fake her death so that your original past self is convinced she dies so he makes the microwave time machine to save her but still avoids getting your childhood friend killed.

Yes I did, exciting stuff. My father has the early stages of Parkinsons, so I hope that they can develop this drug quick enough that it could make a difference to his life as the disease progresses. He lives in Turkey and believe it or not the healthcare system (for him anyway) is far better than our own NHS. He has had the best treatment conceivable and despite being diagnosed 2 years ago he only suffers with the occasional tremors.

My SO's grandmother has lewy body dementia, but it was quite slow for it to be picked up as she didn't present in the normal fashion, her memory was fine, she was just dillusional. My SO pushed the GP as they were like no no it is fine, but managed to challenge them to review it. From diagnosis to 6 months latter the change was rapid, from having slight dillusions to then having brief moments of lucidity with visual and auditory hallucinations. It is sad, but the decline was so rapid there was only a two week period when she was aware something was wrong. On the assessment the doc said, after seeing a brain scan, that he was surprised that she was walking and talking given the extent of the brain death.

I'm glad that they have picked it up early, much better prognosis, and that it seems to be a slow progression.

My nan has parkinsons or something similar(there's disagreement over diagnosis apparently, but she's treated as if its parkinsons) and the standard of care is appalling.
What's really sad is when she's lucid she wants to be put down, but unfortunately in this country we're more compassionate to animals than people.

...Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go play games of war with toy soldiers, imagine everyone being hacked apart with swords, and maybe watch Game of thrones, or something with Guns and Drugs in it.

Silliness aside, why is it just video games that get a bad rep? besides, it's got an 18 Cert on the side of the box like any movie. Just because it's a game makes it no different. When I have kids they will watch an 18 when they are mentally mature enough, same with games.

Wolfshade
10-10-2013, 07:54 AM
Well I presume that they mean 16 fluid ounces but that is 0.8 of a pint. You need 20, obvs that is without taking umbridge at the issue of fluid oz vs. US fluid 'oz'.
There is also issues with this that in very hot or cold conditions the volume of liquid will expand/contract making it more or less.

I was once served a liquid pint, accurately measured by HM standards, but it ended up being served in over large glasses to take into account the 2" of head you had with it. I pointed out that it needed to be topped up and the bar maid pointed out it dispensed a liquid pint and the point on the pint glass showing the level was level with the bottom of the head.

pretty much exactly this yeah.

as for the child, I love this quote from the father:

"How could you let a 9-year-old child go through a security check?” he said at the news conference. “He’s not a terrorist, he’s a 9-year-old child. He went through screening, he boarded the plane. How is that possible?"

so it would have been ok for him to go through the security screening if he was a terrorist?

There are some people who allow their 9-year-old kids to get on planes by themselves. There's a whole movement called Free-Range Parenting that basically says to allow your kids the freedom to do things themselves (ride the subway, walk to school, get on a plane and get picked up other adults when they get off, etc.). It's basically a reaction to overprotective, "helicopter" parenting.

Yeah, that was pretty stupid.

At any rate, this kid needs professional help. He might be bipolar or have Borderline Personality Disorder or something. The parents talk about how they've been trying to get help for him, but haven't been successful. To me, this fiasco represents yet another failure of the American healthcare system. It's the same failure that led to Columbine, VA Tech, Sandy Hook, the Navy Yard, etc.

Nintendo Exec #1: And that's the game in a nutshell. Granted it's promoting badger baiting, truancy, gambling, the trapping and subsequent enslavement of species and 'money with menaces', but my GOD it's got hit written all over it!

Nintendo Exec #2: Well. Let's face it, other companies have promoted worse *holds up Disney logo*. But how will we throw the parents off the scent?

Nintendo Exec #1: Well....you know that Cartoon of it? The long, glorified advertisment the kids won't be able to get enough of?

Nintendo Exec #2: Tell me more.....

Nintendo Exec #1: Well.....R&D have come up with a way to use it to trigger seizures, even in non-epileptics! The backlash will be enormous, but short lived, as all we need do is apologise profusely and promise not to repeat that effect. That lets us weed out the parents who aren't just paying attention to what their kids are watching, but also care about their offsprings health. I mean, if you don't give a monkey's about your kids mental health, what's the betting you're gonna care about the dubious moral message.....

Nintendo Exec #2: CHAMPAGNGE AND PROSSIES ALL ROUND!

Definitely from sometime in the 90's. Notice the green-rimmed bases. Nobody at GW does that anymore; they're all brown now.

So anyway.

Who's ready for pokemon tomorrow?

go pick it up today. Supermarkets started selling it today because games usually come out on a friday, so a saturday release just confused them. so Nintendo got in touch and said 'eh, what the hell, go mad.' we have been selling it all day in Game.

That's a good question. Does anybody know of a male superhero with long, black hair and a potbelly?
