Undecided about Arkham Origins. Loved Arkham Asylum and City but Origins seems like a complete sausage fest with even less female presence than Asylum and no Kevin Conroy voicing Batman which is just something that shouldn't happen while Mr Conroy can still draw breath.

But Asylum and City were both fantastic games

I watched a preview video of the game last night, the reason they gave for not having Hamill, is they wanted a younger sounding Joker. What I saw of it I would say the voice actor nailed the voice really well.

The Ignobel awards were last night!

Medicine Prize: Masateru Uchiyama, Gi Zhang, Toshihito Hirai, Atsushi Amano, Hisashi Hashuda (Japan), Xiangyuan Jin (China/Japan) and Masanori Niimi (Japan/UK) for assessing the effect of listening to opera on mice heart transplant patients.

Psychology Prize: Laurent Bègue, Oulmann Zerhouni, Baptiste Subra, and Medhi Ourabah, (France), Brad Bushman (USA/UK/, the Netherlands/Poland) for confirming that people who think they are drunk also think they are more attractive.

Joint Prize in Biology and Astronomy: Marie Dacke (Sweden/Australia), Emily Baird, Eric Warrant (Sweden/Australia/Germany], Marcus Byrne (South Africa/UK) and Clarke Scholtz (South Africa), for discovering that when dung beetles get lost, they can navigate their way home by looking at the milky way.

Safety Engineering Prize: The late Gustano Pizzo (US), for inventing an electro-mechanical system to trap airplane hijackers. The system drops a hijacker through trap doors, seals him into a package, then drops the hijacker through the airplane's specially-installed bomb bay doors through which he is parachuted to the ground where police, having been alerted by radio, await his arrival.

Physics Prize: Alberto Minetti (Italy/UK/Denmark/Switzerland), Yuri Ivanenko (Italy/Russia/France), Germana Cappellini, Francesco lacquaniti (Italy) and Nadia Dominici (Italy/Switzerland), for discovering that some people would be physically capable of running across the surface of a pond - if those people and that pond were on the Moon.

Chemistry Prize: Shinsuke Imai, Nobuaki Tsuge, Muneaki Tomotake, Yoshiaki Nagatome, Hidehiko Kumgai (Japan) and Toshiyuki Nagata (Japan/Germany), for discovering that the biochemical process by which onions make people cry is even more complicated than scientists previously realised.

Archaeology Prize: Brian Crandall (US) and Peter Stahl (Canada/US), for observing how the bones of a swallowed dead shrew dissolves inside the human digestive system

Peace Prize: Alexander Lukashenko, president of Belarus, for making it illegal to applaud in public, and to the Belarus State Police, for arresting a one-armed man for applauding.

Probability Prize: Bert Tolkamp (UK/the Netherlands), Marie Haskell, Fritha Langford. David Roberts, and Colin Morgan (UK), for making two related discoveries: First, that the longer a cow has been lying down, the more likely that cow will soon stand up; and second, that once a cow stands up, you cannot easily predict how soon that cow will lie down again.

Public Health Prize: Kasian Bhanganada, Tu Chayavatana, Chumporn Pongnumkul, Anunt Tonmukayakul, Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, Krit Komaratal, and Henry Wilde (Thailand), for the medical techniques of penile re-attachment after amputations (often by jealous wives). Techniques which they recommend, except in cases where the amputated penis had been partially eaten by a duck.

Because everything pandering to the male half of the species is boring and unfair? I'm just thoroughly sick of being forced to play a man in my escapist fiction. I can tolerate a lot with Batman but at least Asylum had Harley and Poison Ivy in big roles and City had Catwoman playable with her own campaign and Harley and Talia. Arkham Origins is just a big step backwards which is highly disappointing. The world is not populated solely by men and nor should our stories be.

The DC universe has a broad range of female characters, but almost all of Batman's most iconic enemies are male (poison Ivy and Catwoman are exceptions) maybe that has something to do with DC not being ok with having "good ol' bats" beat on a woman W/O superpowers. Who knows?
BUT EG holds a valid point that there aren't many super-heroine games or films out there. Although the latest animated WW offering was awesome.
Personally I'd be VERY happy to see a Powergirl or Supergirl film, since both provide an interesting counterpoint to the Big Blue Boyscout, hell I'd like a Krypto movie!
But barring that, some more options to play as super-heroines in games would be nice for everyone, wether they're in the "girls kick ***" or "girls look good in lycra" crowd.

But changing a story to fit more female characters for the sake of it doesn't fly really either. I agree more female leads would be cool in games, but this is BatMAN.

It could be worse, I could post MLP stuff too.

Also you'd be fairly cranky if the situations were reversed, saying every second post is about feminism is also a significant overstatement. A lot are, and most of those are in the feminism topic where they can be ignored if you don't want to read them.

I mean it's not like i'm asking for a stand alone, Batgirl game or something. I just want to see some of the ****ing women.

I'd love a Power Girl game. Some kind of Saints row style corporate expansions system with a superhero campaign on top of it. Build up her business, save the world.

But changing a story to fit more female characters for the sake of it doesn't fly really either. I agree more female leads would be cool in games, but this is BatMAN.
They wouldn't have to change it if th game were written that way in the first place. I mean would people really object to seeing his first encounter with Catwoman, Poison Ivy or Barbara Gordon? It would have been great, I just think it's a missed opportunity but sadly not unexpected from DC lately.

Kaptain Badrukk

Oh dear!

Here's a pro-tip for you!

If you induce a road traffic accident by slamming on your brakes, don't pick a coach. Not only will it mash up your car really well, but its full of witnesses. And one of those witnesses will count as a professional witness. Moi. I even took a photo of where I was sitting so I can prove I could see your car stop suddenly, and even the four car lengths our driver allowed wasn't enough to avoid it.

I also tend to notice things like the fact that despite a busy road being your choice, there were *no* vehicles in front of you, adding to the weight of evidence I can put in my testimony.

Oh, and working where I work, I'm pretty much unimpeachable of your insurer decides to challenge my impartiality....

Sucks to be you!!

That's the kind of witness I love in my work. So you were in the cab when the accident happened? Or we're you a bystander?

Oh, and careful how you describe yourself as a "professional witness." People might take that the wrong way. ;)

Wolfe: problem with staged accidents like that is that 1) frequently both parties are in cahoots, so without a witness we (the insurance company) are pretty much screwed; and 2) if they are not in collusion, without a witness it becomes a he said/she said situation, and insurance companies have to err on the side of caution, because the legal ramifications are staggering. (It's called "bad faith" and the judgments are insane. Like 7 digits insane. Depending on the legal venue.)

Even when were 90% positive insurance fraud is occurring, without solid evidence we have no choice but to pay the claim.

Moving 1200lbs of playground sand at 1am to complete a surprise sandbox for my son's bday today was a *****kitty of a job in the dark.

Amusingly, cutting the upright bags lined up one after the other made me feel slightly like a Columbian drug kingpin.

Still worrying that you will get up to 10 years for benefit fraud, compared with being unlucky to get 1 year if you run someone over in your car. Obviously defrauding the state of a little money is less concern than removing a person from society.

Amazon shipped some copies early accidentally to far flung places like the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands that arrived on Saturday when they are not allowed to ship any until today, so are going to be facing some sort of action from Rockstar. Was only a relatively small number, and only to islands and northern ireland, but it is bad for business for the local stores, could really affect our future pre-order numbers, whilst Amazon are too large to care about any punitive measure Rockstar might take.

Things what annoy me a surprising amount.

The term 'Scotch Whisky'.

There is no need for that term. If Whisky is made in Scotland, it is Whisky.

If it is made anywhere else in the world, it's a Whiskey. Inferior. Knock Off. Not quite the full shilling.

It's like 'French Champagne'. NO. Champagne comes from the Champagne region of France. We know it's French, because it's called Champagne.

Morning all

Still trying to work out if I should buy GTA today or not. Got to put the car into the shop so not sure I'll be able to go get it...

But I am feeling a bit dodgy after takeaway last night, so might have to go home anyway?
Don't do it, buy more paradox games.

Well I caved :(
Hopefully it'll arrive today...

My car has gone for a new handbrake, because apparently you do actually need one...
How else are you going to do turns without one?

Mines just developed an intense rattling noise at the back sub 15 MPH...so need to get it checked
Mine rattles between 75-85 it is fine outside of that window.

Ditto the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie. You don't get say, a Tunbridge Wells Melton Mowbray Pork Pie. It's not possible!

GRAAAAH FOODIE SMASH!
It is tautology that is an unnecessary repetition of meaning, using multiple words to effectively say the same thing. Also it is not a problem I just use the term Scotch I would not need any other.

Do you mean because the tolerant views are so heavily down-voted or that even the tolerant views are ignorant of the fact that the niqab is not a religious requirement?
Well, depending on which scholar you ask anyway. There's no consensus in the wider Muslim community on the matter.

I dunno, it's not like the highest rated is particularly unreasonable

Let's use a very simple test for this.
I am a white, non-religious man. Would I be allowed to appear in court wearing a mask concealing almost all of my face? Would I be allowed to even attempt to dictate the terms under which I would remove this mask?
If I would not be allowed, then no one else should be. Allowing exceptions based on religion or gender is discrimination.
Justice must be blind.

Yet if the woman wants to wear it, let her wear it.

The Courtroom thing is unique in this argument, as the jury have to be reasonably sure that the person giving evidence is the correct person. Here, simple common sense trumps. The rest of the time, she'll be able to wear it. It's a compromise.

Agree entirely that the only time she should be obliged to show her face is where and when she needs to be readily identifiable for legal reasons. But those times and places must be clearly defined by law, pure and simple.
And we need to be very careful not to confuse civil liberties with civil rights, or we'll have nudists wandering about everywhere!

Too true. My comment was meant as a joke.
Although of course there are practical considerations there too, do we allow nudism for both pupils and staff in schools for example?

As a side note, I was raised by hippies. Peace and love and everything. I have no qualms with other people's nudity, although I have no desire to show off my pasty over-weight corpus in public. So I say dress how you want in public and have a secular code of dress for specific situations.

Main thing that will make or break this for me....the Radio Stations.

San Andreas had really good ones, with decent rock music. GTA IV had what felt like 90,000,000 Hip Hop stations, and one Rock station which although it did have Sisters of Mercy (nice!), also had Phil Collins (boo!). This meant I did most of the missions in silence, and enjoyed the game a lot less.
