You know, this is something I'd wondered, EG, because I only know one place which calls a PhD a "DPhil". Did you get yours from there? Or is it a term in wider use than I'm aware of?

Depending on whether or not it is first class, depending on whether or not it actually made it in time for the saturday collection depends whether or not today or tomorrow is when you should expect to get it.
Don't slag off Royal Mail, Deutsche post is worst.
Mr Mystery

Royal Mail are a pain in my behind.
Close down local collections office, due to lack of use. Probably because it was stuck out on the arse end of nowhere with no public transport links, when we have a fair sized central Post Office branch in the centre of town, with lots of public transport links.....and have instead put it in the next town over, again on the arse end of nowhere with no public transport links...
Wolfshade
09-09-2013, 07:17 AM
We are still fortunate to have daily deliveries to our home addresses at no additional charge. Take some other systems, you have to rent your postbox for a month fee, regardless of the number of items recieved. Now if you are like me most "post" comes in the form of e-mail so you have very low items, indeed I have about 1 item a week. So you are having to maintain this cost, for the odds and ends. Then you have to remember to go and check it, which because of ground rent are often in the arse end of nowhere with no public transport links and only open during certain hours.
It could be a lot lot worse.

I'm still annoyed with US customs, they lost a USPS parcel heading OUT to me in June, still no sign.
And then there's the USPS fiasco with the reaper kickstarter.
All in all Royal Mail ain't that bad.
Psychosplodge
09-09-2013, 07:27 AM
You have to keep in mind a lot of other courier companies take on work, then dump it onto Royal mail for final delivery. All it means is they are picking the stuff up "pre sorting" it (ha) taking a chunk of money, then forcing Royal mail (who can't refuse- something to do with competition and monopolies (known as downstream access iirc)) to make the final delivery.
All it means is you get a slower service...

German politician is doing it right
"A German politician has been caught up in a media row after being photographed in bondage gear.
Jasmin Maurer, who's a leading light in Germany's Pirate Party, posed for the pictures as part of a private photo workshop. But the 24-year-old member of the Saarland regional assembly came under fire from the tabloid Bild, who wrote an article with the headline, "Is THIS How an MP Should Appear?" - with the images reprinted in full.
Ms Maurer has not taken the criticism lying down.
"A four-letter newspaper is trying to drag me through the dirt and create a scandal over a couple of pictures. But the only scandal here is the paper itself, which has got all upset but itself often prints pictures of women without any clothes on at all," she wrote on Facebook, over a copy of one of her bondage shots.
The Pirate Party, which campaigns for political transparency and internet freedom has issued a statement in support of Ms Maurer. She herself says she is receiving more and more social media messages pledging that "now we will definitely vote Pirate first!""

So, here's a blog that was temporarily posted on Crossfit.com, because they thought the article they linked to was a satire/comedy thing. Then they realized it wasn't, and took it down: http://stuffblackpeopledontlike.blogspot.com/
The article itself sounds like something from the Onion, about how black people don't like crossfit because white people do it. But then if you go and read some of the other articles on the blog, like this one (http://stuffblackpeopledontlike.blogspot.com/2013/09/james-crow-shadow-is-never-far-from.html), in which he claims that Jim Crow laws existed to protect old white people from those violent black criminals, it's pretty quickly apparent that this guy is a massive racist.

Read an article from Canada about cycling injuries.
Most common are head injuries accounting for half of the injuries, the other half are injuries to the rest of the body.
The peice concludes that cyclists should consider wearing body armour along with a proper fitting helmet.
Of course I find this peculiar. I think EG would call this victim blaming. It is the question why should the victim of a crime be responsible to mitigate the effects. I think a better solution would be to make all external surfaces of cars made out of impact absorbing foam. It would also minise the cost of collisions and therefore minimise insurance.
It is akin to saying that people should wear stab jackets to avoid becoming victims of stabbings. It is strange
Psychosplodge
09-10-2013, 07:56 AM
There's a line when it comes to an activity where you can injure yourself, you'd be foolish to go out on a motorbike without leathers no matter the reason you might be possibly falling off it... but at end of the day its your choice if you want to take that risk or not?
I did see an awesome horseriding jacket that has a killswitch type clip and it instantly inflates if you come off, maybe you should all have them too? :D

Wolfshade
09-10-2013, 08:10 AM
But should cycling be inherently dangerous? No
I will accept that like riding a motorbike there is an inherent danger of slipping and falling off which cannot be avoided especially if you are cornering too fast or there is too little grip on the road for direction change. But that should be the same as if you were walking. I mean to aquaplane I'd need to be doing 95+ mph.
One of the biggest complaints is how cyclists "wobble", but if the road was a) clean (or at least clear of debris) and b) not full of potholes then it wouldn't be an issue. With my car driver hat on I am all for both a and b.

Unemployment drops to 7.7% was previously 7.8%, that is 24,000 more in work.
Also people claiming jobseekers is down 32,600 the lowest since Feb '09.
Though all is not rosey there is of course the big gap between north/south with the the SE (read london) having half the unemployment rate the the NE had. Of course one would expect that given that this is historically been the case and london was less hit by the recession than the rest of the uk (indeed some commentators even speculate if the SE was seperate it would not have fallen into recession anyway, despite the numerous banks contained therein).
All is not great, while average salaries have risen by 1% (1.1% including bonuses) prices have risen at 2.8%.
The chancellor will claim that the government is re-balancing the economy as despite 34,000 fewer public sector jobs, private sector rose by 114,00

In addition to changing his mind on exam restructuring 3 times and having so experience in teaching before being appointed eduction minister, hes now decided to ignore feedback from highly qualified people, or consider enacting their policies, which are standard for the rest of the world.
Why does this unqualified person disagree with these recommendations? Because he believes "127 experts including Lord Layard, director of the Well-Being Programme at the London School of Economics; senior lecturer in psychology of education at Cambridge University Dr David Whitebread, and director of Play England Catherine Prisk" are "misguided".

Though you can tell Harry Potter was written by a woman. And this isn't as sexist as it sounds!
When Dumbledore and Voldermort are having their duel in the Ministry, Harry quite sensibly keeps his head down for most of it. Yet he does stick his head above the parapet at times..... And does nothing.
Now sure, he's still learning, and likely can't compete with the spells being cast. But in my experience, there are no school boys who don't know the power of either a Chinese Burn, Nipple Cripple, Noogie, Pod Shot, or even the classic 'Poke In The Eye'. Surely, given the concentration required by Voldermort, he could have cast a relevant spell to do one of the above? Just a distracting cheap shot (I favour poke in the eye) could have swung it! Now granted, a remote wedgie might not do much, as it assumes Voldermort is wearing undies, and has tackle. Looking at the state of him, I wouldn't bank on that!
But he does have eyes, shins and forearms! Come on Harry, pull your finger out! Clearly written by a woman. Now I've seen women fighting, and it is vicious, and they are by no means rubbish at it. But there's lots of hair pulling, and scratching. Voldermort is a slap head, so former is out, and scratching? Not the sort of spell I'd expect a boy wizard to know!

Then I finished GTA 4. As it was autosaving after completing the game, the xbox crashed and corrupted the file. So i would have had to start again. **** that action....

GTAIV bored me. The plot was rubbish! And all those phonecalls, in the middle of a mission? No ta.
I got into GTA with San Andreas, and really missed taking over the map, one area at a time.
Hope there's something akin to that in V!

I'd buy GTA V if it had a female character in the single player portion. Prefer the Saints Row parody though.

And thats including Lorgar and the Kor Phaeron and Erebus pack which aren't available (and I doubt Lorgar will be for a while...at this rate they're going to build up a massive backlog of Primarches compared to the books)
But doesn't include any of the unique units my boys will get
