Still immensely looking forward to the book, but it seems madness to not release any new models. Oh well. I at least hope that Wood Elves get some proper attention (new rules for characters like Orion or Araloth) instead of basically acting as backup to the lesser Elves! Being treated like Tyrion or Malekith's sidekicks would be even more disappointing than no new models!

True, we can but hope... Although there not being any fancy new models on the WD cover makes it seem unlikely.

Mr Mystery
11-18-2014, 06:03 AM
Possible explanation?

Any show of the models might provide massive spoliers for the outcome of the book, and they'd rather keep that schtum for now.

Nagash got a model, because he was coming back. Glottkin we knew would be involved by the name of the book etc. But this one? This is majorly major stuff. It's the Vortex that keeps Chaos at bay after all. The Fate of the Elves is arguably the fate of the Warhammer World.

I'd certainly want to keep things hush hush until the story is told!

Tomgar

Definitely keeping the faith that models will show up eventually, even if not right away.

Bit disappointing - that old Malekith model is looking pretty lame these days - but we'll see. I'll enjoy the book anyway!

I'm going to be firm and honest. There are no new Elf models with this release. None. Zilch. Zero. The sooner people accept this, the better.

If I magically end up being wrong, I'll be jumping for joy, mind you. I'm immensely disappointed there are no new models, though it sounds like the book will be good enough without them.

Again, could you tell us where you are getting this info from? You seem very certain on this, I'm just wondering why. I'm also wondering what the next three weeks of releases are going to be before the Hobbit rolls into town. I can't see there just being one week of End Times releases.

Why Tyrion? He's the good guy as far as I see.

I hate Malekith and Teclis...

Mr Mystery

Tyrion has always annoyed me.

And this time, Malekith apparently has the Everqueen, and thus the spirit of Ulthuan onside, meaning Tyrion is being a dick!

OK, so here are the tidbits revealed regarding the Elven Rhana Dandra (Their final battle)

- Ulthuan is under attack by a Daemonic Horde

- Naggaroth is under siege by Valkia's Khornate Hordes.

- The Phoenix King is assassinated!

- Malekith decides to abandon Naggaroth and invade Ultuahn in one last chance to claim the throne - with plenty of secret allies and double-dealing along the way.

- Tyrion breaks under the pressure of defending Ulthaun , the betrayal of friends and family loss, and turns to the Widowmaker in an act of desperation. (Queue ominous music)

And the final Elven Civil War is ON!

Along the way:

- Secret lore and ancient truths regarding the Elves are revealed

- God die as their followers perish

- The undead rise in Ulthuan

- Tons of characters kick the bucket

- Elith Anar shoots someone important

- Someone wins the war once and for all - unifying what is left of the Elven race.

Here is a picture of a shocking battleline to set the stage:

I think Eldargal is going to blow a gasket, "...sorrowful death robs the Asrai of... resolve." Sounds a lot like Ariel bites it. Then, maybe that's who Araloth is going into the Realm of Chaos to save.

Alarielle is specifically referred to as "the Avatar of Isha", so I'm assuming either Ariel is dead or Ariel's spirit possesses Alarielle's body.

My hype has actually deflated, honestly, but I don't want anyone to think I have a bad impression of End Times: Khaine. There's just nothing there for me I actually want. I have a fully themed Khainite Dark Elf army as my primary Elf army; I used to have High Elves but the outdated models and sometimes questionable rules had me shaking my head. Along came the Dark Elves, a perfect blend of awesome models, good but not unbalanced rules and cool background, specifically with respect to Khainite units (Witch Elves, Executioners, the Cauldron of Blood and so on). The allure of the new Elven End Times book for me from both a modelling and rules perspective was to add in "Khainite Phoenix Guard" and "Khainite Phoenixes"; it would be awesome to convert, the rules would work, and they are the only Elf units not in the Dark Elf book I would actually want to use specifically because they give me durable heavy infantry. Converting Sisters of Slaughter with halberds as Phoenix Guard and Phoenixes trailing blood that literally boil the unlucky souls they move over with dripping blood (Flamespyre rules) or numb them to slaughter (Frostheart rules) would be awesome. Then I learned that the book was Asuryan VS Khaine, and with three separate army lists that pretty obviously meant that I wouldn't be able to combine units dedicated to either god. Ah well, I thought, at least I get to use an Avatar of Khaine in-game! Nope, it's just Tyrion with the Widowmaker (the Avatar of Khaine and Eternity King are titles for Tyrion and Malekith, respectively). It wouldn't be so bad if there were at least new models for the release as then I could justify doing a combined army list down the line separate to my Khainite list, but again, nope! Tyrion on a horse (no new model) wielding the Widowmaker doesn't fit into my infantry-centric army and I severely doubt there is really anything else to be had for Khainite players as presumably "the Avatar of Isha", new rules for Imrik and so on means the focus is placed squarely on the Phoenix King list.

TLDR, I'm not buying the book, but I will order the magic cards just to be safe. The book will doubtless be amazing and I know everyone else will enjoy it, but for me, I can't justify spending $180 on a fluff book I will read once and rules I will barely - if ever - use because there is nothing there I want to use. If I end up being wrong and there is more Khaine love in the book and I can actually legally field Khainite conversions of my favoured non-Dark Elf units, I'll pick it up later, but for now I'm skipping it.

Also, how cool is it that Alith Anar is the one that decides the fate of the Elven race with a single shot from his Moonbow? The most badass Elf gets to make the most important action in the history of all Elves. Hell to the yes! I'm guessing he shoots Tyrion, especially as it definitely appears Malekith's passing through the Flame of Asuryan was sabotaged and he truly was the rightful king all along. Alith Anar hates Malekith more than anyone but the fact they have openly stated in the White Dwarf he makes a shot that decides the fate of the Elven race means it would be far too obvious for him to kill Malekith....unless he simply disarms someone, or he kills both Tyrion and Malekith. Either way....the fluff will be good, no doubt. Just not $180 good :o

Archon Charybdis
11-18-2014, 07:05 PM
I wouldn't necessarily write off being able to combine both units into a single army, that could be what the third army list is for.

Very cool, he's easily my favourite character in all of Warhammer Fantasy! Would love to see him become the ruler of all the elves too, he does embody the lot of them after all as he's a champion of Isha and Kurnous (the nature gods), a High Elf Prince and the rightful ruler of Naggarythe. He'd be a good candidate for all the elven races to turn too for leadership and I'd truly pity any army that had to deal with the united elven race led by him.

My initial thought when I read the spoiler was 'what about Malus?'. The WK sent him north to find Morathi, a mission which besides the obvious goal of getting his mother back, comes with the potential side bonus/silver lining of getting rid of a rival if Darkblade fails. So if the WK attacks Ulthuan with his forces, does that mean Malus found her, the WK abandons him, and his mother, or that Darkblade is dead?
If he is alive, I can see Darkblade setting himself up as the new king of Naggaroth if the WK is crowned Phoenix King, just as I could see Anar continuing his war on Malekith and Morathi, even if the elves come together. He seems simply too uncompromising, to me, to ever change his mind, given the years of war and sacrfices he's already made. Just my two cents for whatever it's worth.

Mr Mystery

I really hope that there will be a Smaug. But doing it in scale would be very hard - Smaug is massive! It'd have to be a huge and expensive plastic kit, and I'm not convinced that GW will be willing to spend that.

I wonder if the fall of the Vortex, rumored in the Khaine book, is the reason for the rumors of a new big dwarf 'smashy thing'. The vortex fall, magic floods back into the world powering up some ancient runes, possibly animating golems or some such.

I might give that a go, but with Glottkin, the manager was told he was getting four books sent to him, and only got two. At least the softbacks are coming out fairly quickly, but it's not the same as getting a brand new book and learning something new on every page. I had to almost steer clear of this site when the Nagash book came out to minimise spoilers.

Staff guy at our GW couldn't order them fast enough so pretty much nobody got one! Poor dude tried but they were gone *so* fast.

Teclis is in the Host of the Phoenix King, but not the Host of the Eternity King. So I guess he dies helping Malekith take the throne.
Tyrion, Morathi, Lokhir, and Korhil are all in the Host of the Aestyrion but not the Host of the Eternity King. That's quite a bodycount, if they all die.

Mind you, Hellebron and Alith Amar are in the Host of the Eternity King but not either of the previous. So it's possible some people are just sitting all the fights or the later fights out, like those two sit out the start of the fight.

A part of me died inside reading those character rules. The spells are nasty enough (my favorite is the idea of a Goblin Shaman stealing Nagash's staff), but Alarielle and Malekith both being Level 5, and the rules they bring (Alarielle makes it tough to kill people around her, Malekith makes them fight super hard)... ouch. Good thing you can't take both in anything short of 3200 points (looks like Alarielle is 540, and Malekith is 1000, in their Super-Saiyan forms).

For bonus points: Imagine Nagash squaring off against a Wizard with High Magic, who just keeps casting the spell all day that says, "You get to do NOTHING, sir!" Suddenly that 1000 points of spell-casting goodness and army-raising awesomeness is just a regular, basic Monster that's taking up way too many points.

I was assuming a Khaine model would be forthcoming, man was I disappointed.

They are only releasing models for characters that survive as far as I can see. I imagine it wouldn't be viable to make a Warhammer avatar of Khaine model for just one book.

That's an astute observation, though being as we've only had two sets of model releases it's hard to tell if that's just coincidence.

Dunno. Glottkin go squish pretty hard, and then get bottled as punishment.

Last book? What about the one focusing on Orcs and Ogres? As the only factions not covered yet, surely they need a book first? Unless the get major exposure in the last one, it will be a real kick in the teeth to players of those factions.

Yep. Grimgor and Skarsnik are revered now as incarnation of Gork and Mork.

They're bound to get a book.

No doubt it will round off with Archaon though.

Hmmm.

Not sure Archaon will wind up on a Dragon.....after all, his steed is the steed of the apocalypse - one of the trinkets needed to be crowned the ever chosen.

Also not at all convinced we're not getting an Orcy book. They're too prevalent for them not to get one!

Hate to say this, as greenskins are my favorite in all of GW's games, but I think they're just considering Thanquol to count for that. There's a lot of clashes between Skaven and Goblins and even some with Orcs. Seems Dwarfs and the greenskins got tossed into the book, though I haven't heard of anything new and awesome for the Orcs like the Dwarfs having the Incarnate of Fire.

Nagash has clashes with Skaven and Dwarves...

For now, wait and see (as is my usual mantra).

Anyone got states on Steve The Warboss' typical accuracy?

I think it's Grimgor's 'eadbutt that will shatter the world.

Just remember that the Steed of Apocalyse can change its shape. In fact it changed its shape several times whilst Archaon was in the process of breaking it so getting it to change into the form a Chaos Dragon is not beyond the realms of impossibility. However given Steve the Warboss's less than sterling track record I would say it is not going to happen.

JvK
