I like the idea of giving the settlers their own space if possible, though still often end up with half of them in a "barracks" of some sort. I might start assigning guards to a communal block as they never actually seem to use their beds.
I tend to build the flat rows as a makeshift wall so I can funnel raiders etc.
When I redo sanctuary again I think I'll make a square of 4 rows with my guards given sleeping bags in the diner. Then put my stores in the central square that'll produce. My death match arena might have to go though.

However the process of robo-insemination is far too complex for the human mind!

Really nice stuff 'splodge. Share a similar design philosophy to me, I usually start with a barracks style set up just to get bums in bed, then work on expanding it to give more space to each settler. How is the new DLC for internal walls? Big frustration for me is the lack of snapping internal walls and doors.

I love it when ****boys start talking like they are preparing for the apocalypse, its like this hilarious combination of self importance and idiocy which is a refreshing change from their usual whining bull****.

    Thanks.
The barn/warehouse stuff seems to snap to anyline on a floor piece even as part of a large floor if you persevere(before I was sticking windows in the L shaped prefab wall was a quick and easy way to do it but it still doable with walls). The windows have to be rotated to the correct facing or won't allow the next section to snap to it. Roof pieces are trickier and sometimes need temporary walls building and deleting to get the layout you want.

I'll have to experiment with it more. I had a good build last night, but discovered my plans for a high rise factory at Red Rocket won't work out, factory bits really seem to need a lot of flat space. So its just a plain robot factory now.

Struggling to get a good shot of my Hangman;s Alley build:

Envisioning Hangmans as a kind of military checkpoint, going to shove everyone in uniforms at some point.

Also, a little test I did of concrete fortifications, really happy with how they came out especially the walkway which was tricky to make work:

Sanctuary will eventually be surrounded by walls like this, taller around the front and sides where enemies actually approach from.

Like how the wall & walkway look. Also the trading post design is very good, I'm a fan

Also I'm really liking the new light-up posters.

    Nice market.
I've started using the picnic table in my bars cause the chairs are attached.
I'm really not getting on with Hangman's ally.
Next time round I'm going to add the better settlements mod which has the barricades like at the airport and steal your checkpoint idea.
That walkway looks tricky. Though If I set some of them up the concrete walls will probably fill the gaps better than the current scrap fences at sanctuary.

Light up posters? Not seen those

Thanks I'm really happy with it came out, currently working on:

The walls extend all the way back to past the second blue house to the right, then intermittently between houses until the furthest house on the right near the oak tree which is open bar for turrets and guard posts. I'm selling 300+ purified water a day with the second tier barter perk just to spend on concrete shipments. It is, as the kids say, ridiculous.

Th trading post will end up looking different to yours at some point. It was going to be a barracks, the stairway is to connect it to the battlements but I thought I'd better actually build the battlements first then worry about that so made it a market instead. The new posters are great.

I really want to play with all the new stuff, but I'm still trying to get through Far Harbor. Keep getting distracted, and then there's also my controller acting up (I think the wires are a bit damaged inside, might end up having to replace it soon). But then there's stuff like doing insane things in Sims, playing more Marvel Heroes (especially as it's got a "birthday" event going), Overwatch (ridiculously fun even for someone like me who isn't amazing at FPSs)... And now a Steam sale?!? I already have a desktop covered in games I need to play! But so many items in my wish list with savings...

I like how people are building their Sanctuary Hills setups, but I can't do that on my main build any more without scrapping the whole thing. I used various mods including one that, after you'd been with the Institute long enough, let you build stuff with Institute walls and all. So I scrapped all the homes and built some nice clean metal buildings for shops, workshop, bunkhouse, meeting house, bar, dance club (seriously), a brick school house (with the Coal Hill sign in front of it, of course), and even a small church with pews lined up facing a lectern, candles for lighting, and an upstairs living and "consultation" area. (Fun fact: Garvey and Piper are both religious, to some degree, and will sit and pray in those pews. Haven't noticed others, yet.)

I have another play-through where I'm trying out the Brotherhood, and that Sanctuary is more wooden buildings. It's a bit more spread out because I haven't got enough stuff to build things yet, but there's a diner/bar/general store, bunk house, private home, a building with separated shops (in their own rooms with doors for entry), and even a sheriff's office (complete with a couple of cells).

I feel like it's not really "brag-worthy" when seeing all of the stuff other people do, but given my tendency to get distracted, I think it's not bad.
