So you like more isometric style view with non-turn-based combat? I'm not sure there's anything else left in the RPG category.

Top down or isometric, I loved classics like Terranigma but it wasnt a genre I heavily got into but do have a heavy appreciate for the storytelling and art styles. Would like to make an old-school action rpg myself oneday if my programmer gets good enough.

Have you tried Waking Mars? It's 2D and more platformer/puzzle sort of genre, but you play as an astronaut trapped in a martian cave system and you have to interact with the alien ecosystem to move from cave to cave. Most of the critters are 'plantish', but there are flying and scuttling motile lifeforms too, and none of it is humanoid. (Also your AI tells you off at one point for insisting on giving 'human' names to stuff, like calling the reproductive organs 'seeds'.)

Playing some game dev tycoon last night while I was listening to something else.
Does anyone know how much money you need before its worth setting the R&D department up?
I also managed to make a game using nothing but my overdraf(£2M) that made me about £30M and saved the company. (it was skyrim, for PC)
Can't get the hang the pseudo DS though. pokemon clone? nope. Minigame shovelware? nope. one of the biggest selling handhelds of all time and I can't get the correct combination to sell anything on it.
Fifa clone sells well on the xbox clone.

However the process of robo-insemination is far too complex for the human mind!

Good to see more Doom love! I love the soundtrack too, even with the guitars it is pretty badass. Like a mix of djent metal (a type I dont actually mind!) and powernoise electronics. Game is pretty good too but I want to see a remake of Quake using that engine!!

edit : how far have you gotten yet? Have you seen the hell levels yet, I think they look awesome - would go there for a holiday lol

I have done two hell levels so far, just up to the cyber daemon boss. had a quick go last night before bed and died, will have a proper attempt this evening probably. it is a lovely simple gameplay that gives plenty of options, all at high speed. seems to be a resurgence of old fashioned shooters lately with Doom, Painkiller, and Shadow Warrior.

Axiom Verge is a fantastic metroidvania style game that would be right up your street style wise

The cyber demon looks very tough. Yeah, I never liked the modern FPS games personally, especially the modern warfare and WWII types, not my cuppa at all allthough I think they probably have their place. Definitely grateful for the resurgence of old-school style stuff.

Am wondering if this one will be any good too : https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1129101562/inner-chains/description

Looks quake inspired and has a nice HR Giger style to it's world, esp like the weapon designs.
