"difference of opinion"
"the Phantom Menace?"
Twelve monkeys, eleven hats. One monkey is sad.
Come on people, the Phantom Menace had good parts. Like Darth Maul! And podracing!
Kabal of Venomed Dreams
And Liam Neeson.
However, the rest of it more than compensates for all three. Jar Jar alone counters both Darth Maul and Liam Neeson, in my opinion. Ironically, someone I know at work saw it as her first Star Wars film and liked it. So, I guess that is a good sign and hope it is all uphill for her from there.
Similarly, it was my daughter's first Star Wars film, and she loved it. Although she was five at the time. And, when asked about Jar-Jar, she "doesn't really listen to him".

I actually like TPM quite a lot, like it has annoying parts and it has some pacing issues but Maul is cool, podracing and the space battles look cool and the story is about a teenage girl who takes a ragtag group of heroes back to her kingdom, raises an army and personally liberates the capital city and captures the enemy leadership so its pretty good really.
Ask not the EldarGal a question, for she will give you three answers, all of which are puns and terrifying to know. Back off man, I'm a feminist. Ia! Ia! Gloppal Snode!
Tellingly, I've never looked at it that way before. Focus was always on Anakin.

Ignoring it won't make it go away :P
In all honesty, although it's the most flawed of the series, and heralded some disappointing changes (the biological aptitude for being a force user thing etc), it's still a big part of what the franchise has grown into, so it gets to be in the marathon.
