You can buy and play with just a starter set. It's about equivalent to a 1000pt 40k game. If you don't like it, it's only $50 and the models look cool.

I am the Hammer. I am the right hand of my Emperor. I am the tip of His spear, I am the gauntlet about His fist. I am the woes of daemonkind. I am the Hammer.
Whos ready for some Op:Icestrom week from infinity? I think we all are!!
just to hijack this thread again, seeing as I am already here...
I have been reading the rules, got the models, got the dice... so templates and markers. what do I need? the micro art studio ones seem to be well received, and they have a set listed as a starter token set, but don't say what is in it...

I started with the starter token set (one for each player) and worked out from there adding tokens as we added rules. Next purchases will likely be camo, then probably irregular/impetuous order tokens, and then by repeaters. After that it's pretty much dependent on what armies you play. Many of the other tokens you may never use unless you play specific factions.
Armies - Skaven, Tomb Kings, Eldar, Iron Snakes, Dark Eldar, Retribution, & Legion

well I bought a camo set, and something else, and the templates. the starter set didn't really seem essential to me with only half a dozen figures each side. from what I can tell, they are all regular troops, and only have one wound each, which would seem to make most of those tokens pointless.
