Indeed you can! Lovely stuff!
I'm torn on the back fins.
The model is dripping with "gems" but if you paint them all it will look like a leopard.
On these large sized models, the sheer size and simple color schemes tends to work better than trying to fill the entire surface with detail, so I'm going slow and adding detail only where I think it needs some contrast.
But I'm uncertain of how far to push it with the yellow gems on the rear fins.

that one looks mighty nice! great job! certainly better than mine...
I'd say if you painted blue gems, they'd still stand out as nice details without looking too overboard the way yellow or red gems would.
I am the Hammer. I am the right hand of my Emperor. I am the tip of His spear, I am the gauntlet about His fist. I am the woes of daemonkind. I am the Hammer.
I'm with darklink. I think blue gems could be a cool compromise.
Purple gems could look good.
Nice paint job BR, I must admit I'm kind of intimidated by the model painting wise. Still I should give one a go. How was it to build ?

You can do it Deadlift.
It really is a beautiful model - and feels like an action figure instead of a miniature.
It was easy to build, but take your time. It's no harder than a Riptide.
I recommend not attaching the torso ever, so its easier to paint and travel with. Also a hint is to not attach all the "trim color" pieces based on your scheme, and paint them later and attach them last. I did that with all the yellow plates for instance.
Darklink & energongoodie I will try some blue gems on the fins and see what happens. Thanks for the idea guys! More pics soon.
