    Default Infinity: Where to Start

    Hey everyone,

I am a long time wargamer and looking at getting in to Infinity (I already play a bunch of other games)

Trouble is I can't figure out where to start with it. Any reccomendations with regards to forming a sectoral army over a standard one? What factions are considered to be more newb-friendly, and what sort of build is more compedative? I can't figure out how many orders I should have in a 300 point game for instance.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Ok, how does this look like.
First you have to buy is the Acontecimento Starter Pack.

Then you will have to buy the PanOceania Support Pack, that comes wiht the Doctor and Engineer. They are going to release that soon, so wait for it because those miniatures will be cheaper than buying them separately.

The Dragao is a beautiful TAG, go for it.

The Guarda de Assalto (Assault Guard) is a separate blister, and it also comes with extra arms.

Include this babe, she will become the Lieutenant when Phoenix dies.

Buy 2 copies of this guy. they will be the most effective troops of your list.

    Make 2 fireteams:

Phoenix, 2 Myrmidons and 1 Myrmidon with spitfire

Ajax, 2 Myrmidons and 1 Myrmidon with spitfire

Allow penthesilea to go by herself on her bike killing people.

    Have fun.

The differences between a standard (vanilla) army and a sectorial is a change in what units are available and in what quantities and the ability to use a link team in a sectorial army. In general, sectorial armies tend to have a narrower selection of troops from within the faction (and sometimes are able to take specific mercenaries or a certain unit from another faction) but can usually take more of what's available to them.

Link teams... are somewhat complicated and best left until after you've learned the basics. In short, they buff the members part of them but at the expense that you have to take multiples of the same unit to form one (thus narrowing the variety of abilities in your army).

All the factions are fairly newbie-friendly, especially if starting out with one of their Starter Packs. Some of the sectorial starters, however, can be a bit more difficult to pick up on due to the inclusion of more specialized soldiers. Competitive-wise, all the factions are mostly balanced with everything having a number of counters to them, and all being highly situational depending on the terrain and other factors.

The easiest way to decide which army to start out with is just to pick the one with the models you like best. It's also recommended you start out small at around 100-150pts to learn the basics but it's okay if you don't (just means longer initial games with more learning in each, rather than spread out).

As for how many orders, the goal is usually 10 (which is the max size of one combat squad), though you can do fine with 6-8. And then that all fluctuates with what's actually on the table in regards to hidden deployment, airborne deployment, and irregular troops.
