I don't think that's his point. I think his point was that some of us paid $17 for the dataslate, and then the rules get released in a $4 White Dwarf (which, unsurprisingly, is one of the few to sell out locally). So yeah, it feels like a bit of a slap in the face that we dropped $13 more for this small set of rules than other people did.

What would the "free update" have even needed? Far as I can see, the rules in WD were the same as those in the dataslate. I picked up the WD just to have a physical copy because sometimes that's easier to deal with than flipping through multiple books on my Kindle.

It was (and is) $17 for set of rules and pages of fluff and artwork that weren't in the White Dwarf. The update changes all the images to be the new models and new art work based on the new models, it also revamps the layout and colours to match the new standard.

I believe there were some minor wording changes to a couple abilities. Nothing that changed the rules in practice, but a few things could be read in ambiguous ways.

Did the Dataslate have any fluff or art the WD was missing?

Fluff was pretty much the only difference. Not really worth $13 more, especially when it was pretty much the same stuff we already knew, and was in digital form.

I don't think it'd be as annoying if the dataslate had been a more sane price like $10. It's next to nothing in terms of content, but is half the price of a codex. They were able to charge that because it was the only way to get the rules. Of course, if you missed the WD, it's back to being the only way to get the rules. And that'll bug people who don't want the fluff, having to pay $13 without even having a physical copy.

And if they hadn't done the slate, there'd be *****ing.

If they hadn't updated the slate, for free, there'd be *****ing.

    If they'd charged $10, there'd be *****ing it wasn't $5.....

And your calling legitimate complaints "****ing" is ridiculous. But hey, glad YOU have so much money to spend and feel like GW games should be exclusively for people with wads of unnecessary money lying around...
