Default Marble Effect for a Statue?

Has anyone got any advice for making a model - in this case, a memorial to dead Astartes - look like a marble statue? I'm hoping for a red and pink "rose marble" effect on this one, if you want to be that detailed, but really, any advice is welcome, because I haven't the slightest idea of how to start.

Closest thing I've come across is a tutorial on painting Turquoise stone - http://fantasygames.com.pl/blog/turquoise-stone-tutorial/

Ichiban Painting did this tutorial recently http://youtu.be/WqpVDgmLeWg

I like the tutorial Tom posted more, as I feel the green is too intense in the video, but between the two of these you could get a good result. Don't forget some source material and to use pinks instead.
