Default Repainting the Brotherhood of Fire

    Hello All!

    Figured I would start this thread as my last one on this topic had quite outgrown its remit. If you want to check out the genesis of this project, check out THIS THREAD HERE.

    Ok, done that? Cool.

    Essentially an update to that thread, here's my first fully painted Tactical Squad for my company;

    The observant will notice that the Sergeant has changed from the last set of photos. I decided I wanted a different load out to better match the theme of the unit; siege breakers, set up for close range firefights inside fortifications. To that end, I gave the new Sergeant a Powerfist (because who wouldn't want to punch through bulkheads?) and a combi-flamer to help clear rooms in conjunction with the squad's flamer.

    Rather than an actual combi-flamer, I went with a flame pistol (from FW's LEGION MkIV POWER WEAPON SET) and an old plastic Bolter mag-locked to his thigh, mostly because it gets mentioned so often in BL novels. To match in with the rest of the squad, I trimmed the Bolter's barrel down.

    In part because this is the first squad I have fully finished, I made them the first squad of the company. As you can probably tell, I went for 3rd Company. Not because the red matches my scheme (actually, that was kind of annoying) but because I rolled a D6 for it! The Sergeant is the only member of the unit not to have a Tactical symbol on his shoulder guard, so I did something a little different with his unit designation marking. This was mostly because I am a lazy sod, and didn't want to try to paint one on around the backpack vent. I also added an I to the back of his powerfist because it was such a big, flat area, I couldn't help myself.

    My favourite thing about this model is that it is properly weighty, being the old metal BA Sergeant, with most of the blood drops clipped and filed off. I've also used a DA censor to help mark him out as a special Sergeant (because he'd have to be to command the first squad!)

    So, for the rest of the troopers;

    I put the squad marking in the centre of the Tactical designation symbol. I'll do the same for the Devastators, but I think the Assault squads will need something different, probably on the right leg or knee.

    On the other side is, as you might expect, the Chapter symbol of fire overlaid with linked circles representing brotherhood. Unfortunately my phone's camera has done a terrible job picking out the gold loop against the yellow...

    Quick final shots of the short barrel variants of the Flamer and Lascannon. Fits the theme and I like converting! And yes, that is the old metal hybrid devastator lascannon kit. To make the conversion work it is about 30% pins now...

    That is it from me for today. More pictures available on my Flickr photostream, including at least 3 views of every member of the squad. Let me know what you think.

    Is that sarge the old BA pointing sarge?

    Hmm yes it is and you explain that.

    I'll be quiet now.

    Yep, that's the fella. What do you think of what I've done with him?

    I love the thurible and the use of the heresey era flamer. Of course any removal of BA sigils is an abomination.

    I love the themes and how they continue, I sometimes think that they would look cool on magma type bases.

    In gaming terms will these be run as counts-as salamanders?

    I'm tempted by that, but I've been calling them an Imperial Fist successor chapter for over a decade, so possibly not. Of course, I could always ally in the units with flamers...

    Just because they are IF successors doesn't mean they follow IF ideology strictly. Look at the Ultramarines and all of their variant successors!
    Black Templars are fist successors but you wouldn't know from looking. Therefore if salamanders fit the fluff, go with it.

    More stuff!

    Assault Squad;

    Again, another siege specialist squad equipped for fighting in tight fortifications, hence no jump packs and two flamers.

    Completed bases;

    Not the best lighting (they are actually much lighter than this IRL) but gives you a good idea what they look like.

    Of course, no jump packs means they get a free transport;

    and a close up of the interior

    rather than going for an active screen lighting up the inside (and because I'm too lazy to do OSL) I went with a powered-down holo-dome in the centre, with a little reflected luminescence from the outside environment.
