Default Lotz of Plasticard

At this point we started applying plasticard, a lot of it. We also put small sheets of brass in random places.

Here is the first time we placed the frame onto the feet. They remained detachable until we finished. Joe is putting plasticard onto the shoulders using liquid nails. We ended up having to fix a lot of the initial liquid nail bonds with super glue. If we did all again we probably wouldn't use liquid nails.

Default And I'll Form the Head

Since Orkasmatron was commissioned by Ghazghkull Thraka it stood to reason that the Goff clan would be well represented in the design. We decided early on that he would have horns, which can be seen in this sketch. I'm not sure what the 4 and 1/4" or the 2" are all about, it turned out to be a whole lot bigger than that.

The center of the head is pink Styrofoam glued and screwed to a wooden base. For this type of application Liquid Nails worked very well.

Default The Gaze of Mork, the Horns of a Squiggoth

Foamcore was added on to the top of the pink foam to give it a smooth surface and for added depth. This section here would be the face of "Orkasmatron". Thin sheets of plasticard were placed behind the noise and the small eye.

For the large eye, "The Gaze of Mork", I have to give credit to my wife. I had a bit of tunnel vision and was trying to make the head look exactly like the sketch. With that in mind, we went to one of the local second hand stores and I was looking for an old camera lense to use for the eye. I wasn't having any luck when Heather grabs this electronic back massager and says " What about this?" Initially I dismissed it, but she persisted. Sure enough the gray plastic piece popped right off. We found the clear section, for the rim around the eye, there as well; it is a screw on lid for a hard plastic cup.

The horns had to look cool. I wanted them to look like they came from a massively overgrown Squiggoth. At one point I got a hold of a pair of freshly cut horns from a genuine Wisconsin Cow. Those were a bit small and would have been a lot of work, which we already had plenty of. Our solution ended up being this pair of Texas Long Horns.

Thanks for sharing, I really like this picture. We got so caught up with everything at Adepticon that we didn't take a whole lot of photos ourselves. That makes it especially nice to see shots like this.

Default More Work on the 'Ead

The center of the jaw was made of wood and would be not permanently affixed until much later. At this point the horns still come out.

    "]

Here the plastic is being applied to the jaw and the head. Some details, such as the "eyebrow", have been added as well. Big bolts were used to hold the jaw in place. You can also see one of the circles that had been gouged out of the pink insolation using a hot wire to make a nice fit for the horns.

    Default 'Uge Teef

This shot goes back a bit, just before I started applying plasticard to the jaw and was in the process of sizing up the teef. I like the size reference you get with the Land Raider in the belly. You can also see the gear that we placed under the head from this angle.

    "]

Here is the jaw a little further along with a set of 'uge teef. Still needs more rivets and a lot of detail to add to the sides before it is complete.
