Games Workshop shut them down for violating their intellectual property rights.

^ This. Fortunately you can still download all the modules from various P2P sites. There's nothing illegal about it, either since all GW did was tell Tim to take the site down and not develop any more modules - there's nothing they can do about people downloading the module in other places, or about us playing it.
