What are the Toll Roads/Bridges/Tunnels?
Pay per mile driving is coming, the technology exists, it is just a matter of time...

That's a gross violation of freedom of movement.
There's how many of them across the network?
Got to:
But I cried and left...Quote:
Zero Point Energy (electromagnetic energy that exists in a vacuum).
How is it?
You pay your bus fare by how far you go.
You pay your tram fare by how far you go.
You pay for train fare by how far you go.
You pay your areoplane fare by how far you go.
The state is not stopping people from being able to travel or reside or work.Quote:
Freedom of movement, mobility rights or the right to travel is a human right concept that the constitutions of numerous states respect. It asserts that a citizen of a state in which that citizen is present has the liberty to travel, reside in, and/or work in any part of the state where one pleases within the limits of respect for the liberty and rights of others, and to leave that state and return at any time
There are those who assert the tolls are a limitiation to the freedom of movement, but such arguments are fairly weak. Especially given the footpath network. Freedom of movement does not necessarily encompass your right to choose what vehicle you use. Hence I can't drive a tank on the motorway, or a jeep along a bridleway.
Current number of Toll Roads: 1, though historically there were the turnpike roads which were all toll roads.
Spain, for instance their motorway network is all privatised and suffers less congestion and the roads are of a better quality (although that is arguably as they do not suffer from the weather in the same way that British roads do.)
Road pricing: Durham & London, both under the auspices of controlling emissions.
Bridges/Tunnels: ~26
Because they're tracking your every movement which is by itself inherently wrong.
And because They wouldn't lower any other taxes to do it so only the wealthiest would have freedom of movement.
Nothing to do with us paying for all those nice EU funded spanish roads in the last few decades? ;)
Are you sure you can't take a tank on a motorway? I'm sure I've seen a Warrior racing down the A1.
The emissions argument is a joke they trot out to do whatever they want - eg the proposed slower and wider M1 at tinsley.
Tracking movement isn't limiting your movement.
As it is your movement is tracked thanks to your mobile 'phone. GPS, Bluetooth, Wireless all of these track your movements.
Driving on a motorway or trunk road, look for the green or blue cameras, they are ANPR detectos and monitor where you drive and in what time. Specs do the same. CCTV across the road network, across cities.
Also, walking is still free at the point of entry.
The emission argument isn't a joke, CO2 emissions are linked to speed of the engine, certainly NO, PM10, NHMC and CO are more dependent on driving style and engine size than speed, but that isn't so with CO2. Plus it is simple, if you can take 10 cars off the road and replace it with a bus you make a net gain, you reduce congestion.
The one where they are targeting the high levels of whatever it was that is produced by lorries and buses by reducing a limit that they aren't subject to?
Yes I'm aware of the anpr camera dotted around, but I don't normally see them on my cross country backroad dash ;p
And the blue cones meant for traffic flow are only supposed to read the last three letters, or at least that was how they were originally touted.

Blue ones are for speed, you can't reliably count vehicles with cameras. Loops or Radar are better.
I'm not normally a conspiracy nut but this makes me uncomfortable.
I cannot comment on what the Police do and do not do. I can tell you for most purposes CCTV is better than ANPR and it is not a cheap conversion and quite a lot of cameras lack the resolution required for ANPR tracking, facial recognition and what have you, though obviosuly the technology becomes cheaper and more affordable and the high-end becomes better and better.
What the HA does with it's ANPR systems: http://www.highways.gov.uk/traffic-information/traffic-information-services/traffic-cameras/why-does-the-highways-agency-use-anpr/
That's what I thought the blue ones on the A roads did?
They might do, Blue oens are owned by TrafficMaster. So they are a private firm and can do whatever they like with the information. Especially as the roads have been defined as "Public Space" so if you can see it capture it you can use it.
Seems sensible
Yeah, at least the green ones have rules :) and who knows what happens in Wales and Scotland
probably nothing good...
Lordy lordy I am a busy bunny today.
It's great!
If you have some free time I have several thousand lines of unannotated VBA (urgh) code that needs deciphering.
My current mission is trying to find a presumed variable L that may or may not hold a numerical value but as to how it is created, addressed updated I have no idea.
I go out of my way to avoid coding.
I could do that. Outcome would be wrong, but I could do that.
And now, to cheer people up......recent stories of UKIP.....
Borderline racist poster about dirty foreigners taking our jurrrbbbs - Model used is Irish. Not British. Oops.
Candidate says Johnny Foreigner should go home, despite himself being South Africa born. Oops!
Campaign for Common Sense Bus - Crashed into a train station whilst attempting a u-turn. Oops!
Anyone else expecting Noel Edmonds to turn up and hand the Nation a Gotcha!
The model could have been used as an example of these foreigners coming in and taking the jobs. Or, a pointing to a UKIP belief that Ireland should be solely under UK control...
Number 2 & 3 I didn't hear about. Number 3 amuses me greatly.
Indeed!
Oh, and a UKIP employee being caught on a vox pops type thing pretending to a bloke in the street type speaking brain. Oops!
Irish have had right to work here longer than we've been in EU.
The second is hilarious.
Should have picked a more common sense place for a Uturn :D
The wife thing is a non-issue, don't most politicians do this?
But this is all sensible criticism, and how they should be criticised.
Don't you find the shouting down at events and the defacing of posters a bit fascist? kinda like the tactics the National socialists employed in the twenties and thirties?
wow Wolfie when was the last time you rode a bus in London? :D
They stopped that zone rubbish years ago for buses, a single bus ride right across the city will cost the same price for a couple of stops in the suberbs.
Still aplies on the Underground though :(

ah so I'm not the only one who remembers (or even watched) Noel's House Party then :)
Nah.
I like watching people lay in to UKIP. They're a really insipid party, and pretty much the acceptable face of English* racism.
*Important to note this is not absolving the other areas of the UK from racist idiots. We all have them. But the UK in UKIP is a total misnomer, but then I guess 'London and Home Counties Independence Party' is a bit of a mouthful.
Never been to London, but in the rest of the UK, where you know, the majority of the populace lives :p
So on London 'buses you get the people doing short distances subsiding people who go long distances. Sounds fair and reasonable to me
While we are at it, people should pay more on their Fiats so that Ferraris can be sold cheaper!
He's too busy pretending to talk to a man on a phone these days anyway
Sorry Mystery but having been caught between the UAF and EDL before, well they have a lot more in common with each other.
And really the UAF have a very ironic name.
What? Farage?
Oh right, yes. I'm with you now.
Have you seen the various Fruit Machines with him on them? Those photos are scary. I don't know if he's calling a w**k line, or working on a w**k line....
So that is why he has an eye on this hand...
Mystery you ordered the heresy III ltd didn't you?
Is it tomorrow they come?
I didn't in the end....but my mate Flipping Enormous Simon has his.
Pics of it up on Facebook and that.
oh thats promising, it might be waiting for me later :D
Bob Hoskins has died :(
This makes me sad.
he of the old BT advert "It's good to talk"
Just heard.
He was a very good actor.
BT Advert, Mario Bros Movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Long Good Friday....
Gonna be missed.
