Ah the beautiful working environment of competent management...
Competence is questionable.
How do you lose 10-15 gallons a week on a regular basis...
Yeah that was what I was suggesting :D
 thats a lot of waste. How many free pints are your staff giving away?
That's the thing, no one knows why this much is being wasted, and it isn't being investigated properly. Instead they're just throwing around accusations of theft.
I'm just glad that the kitchen is not under scrutiny for once.
Is that because of your lack of alibi? :p
But yeah, that's a lot of wastage. If my google-fu is good, there's roughly 8 pints to a gallon (not sure if US or UK measurement though!). So 80-120 pints going missing? Going on my local's prices, at £3.50 a pint, that's £280-£420 a week lost....
Hmmm.
Have you checked for invisibile Beer Badgers? They're sods those are.
I have the ultimate alibi, I was on holiday and I don't work on the bar anyway. :p
It could be the Badgers, but like hell they'd check, they'd rather blame the staff first.
Granted I don't know you're usual sales volume of beer, but theft does seem the most likely cause here, and definitely worth eliminating in the short term.
Unless they're really, really crap at pouring pints, I just don't see how you can get that much wastage.
sounds like the equivalent of a full barrel going missing per week, must be theft at that level
Depends if it's a single brand that's constantly sky high in wastage I guess.
If there was some kind of leak in the pump, I reckon you'd note that pretty quickly, due to reduced pressure when pouring (if it poured at all), a nice puddle of booze somewhere, and having to change the barrel worryingly quickly.
it could also be a problem with inventory...
Depending on when the new stock is put onto the system in any retail enviroment, you can potentially sell all of a product before it has even been listed, if it isn't added automaticly upon recepit of the goods (and few supermarkets have that type of system believe it or not) it will be added manually, this can be hours or even days after the stock came in.
The end result is massive differances in acutal stock and virtual stock....
I've got the same problem at work, inventory suggest I have 40 odd units of one brand of beer, can't find it anywhere in the store at all, thats over 5 CASES of beer missing.
Ultimatly it boils down to sheer human stupidness.
@Mystery and Kirsten
Yes, but the point is, it's just not being investigated.
It's all well and dandy saying that it's being stolen, but without any evidence it's just words.
I don't even know how we could steal it, you obviously can't drink on shift, and every member of staff is barred. Yet it's still being lost.
@Darren, that is a good point.
Obtain empty barrel from somewhere (easy enough to come by if you're actually looking). Sneak it in at same time you sneak out a full one (can be done, not easily, but still doable). Presto. Looks like regular wastage. Rinse and repeat every time you run out.
well the only time I worked somewhere with that much wastage was when the cooling unit in the cellar broke in the middle of summer, and I can't imagine the staff are bad enough at their jobs that they miss-pour the pints that badly
I've put my Poirot hat on, so please read in a Belgian accent, nes pas?
I suspect it is someone in management. They know another pub or publican or something, and are selling it on to them on the cheap. With access to another seller, access to a suitably branded empty barrel would be easy. And with management access, switching the barrels is similarly of no great effort.
I dunno what it is, and it's no way near my responsibility to find out, being a Kitchen Team Leader, but it needs to get sorted; and I have said that to all of the managers. It's just a joke.
No one can be there off shift, regardless of what you wanted to do there.
No drinking, no eating, no socialising, no nothing. You cannot be there if you aren't working. It's stupid.
The amount of times my friends have wanted to go, and couldn't because I was with them. I'd say we've lost a lot of money.
It's a weatherspoons right?
It's not group wide just so you know as someone I know who works for them has no problem drinking at his workplace.
No, it isn't. Luckily we have Montgomery's Tower (another 'spoons) over the road, so we can go there.
Still very weird...
I just relish in the fact that she's just losing business now. >:3
At the start of the big bar loss of stock, it made sense, now six months later, when we (the kitchen) are clearly not to blame, it's silly.
We were probably one of the biggest spenders.
If you think about it, with us spending money there, she basically wasn't paying us. :p
yeah an hour a day in beer?
Well after a close, me and Sam would spend around 20 quid each, possibly more, and we do a lot of closes.
Oh... I see your point.
You're a looney.
Bah.
Knob gag Bermuda triangle avoided!
Is this a result of whichever way friday went?
Which Friday?
Thor Friday.
Nah that went lovely that :)
She had a cold, and I think I've now got it, but pleasant evening all round!
And Thor The Dark World meets with my approval!
Good.
