yeah, watched the two seasons of The Batman that are on there, though I didn't like the character designs, so now it is the animated series.
had to listen to a long rant about immigration today, from somebody who isn't manx... so a person who came over here to work, complaining about people coming over here and taking the jobs...
Urgh. Hate rants against immigration, especially as every impartial, bipartisan study shows a solid benefit to the economy derived from immigration.
Well the IT group just sent over the revised project estimate and I am still not impressed. Between an annoyed penny pinching CEO wanting things done on a shoestring budget and the IT Consultants padding their numbers I know how Homer feels here... :p

Disabled user couldn't use a 'bus as the disabled space was also a wheel chair space that was already in use.
tough one... although waking the baby seems like a rather feeble excuse to me (no kids yet myself though so limited experience - don't kill me :)). I don't think you should "throw" someone off a bus so that someone else can ride it, but other should be liable to give up some measure of comfort to allow a disabled (or elderly for that matter) person to ride - like standing up to make space, or in this case folding the pushchair. If that was somehow impossible (badly designed, or overloaded, or whatever) then at least to me the mother had the same right to stay on the bus...

Wheelchair? Not quite so much.
pram users are so ****ing entitled. Snotty woman glared at the SO last time we caught a full bus as she was using the fold down seat that the sign says shes entitled to considering she requires a walking stick. You know how you took a pram on a bus when I was a kid? you took your spawn out of it and folded it up.
I don't understand why parents insist on huge prams and strollers in the first place. You've got a small baby, why does that small baby have to take up as much space as 4 adults? Slings require far less inconvenience for everyone.

I am not sure what the right response is. If you treat everyone as equally, then 'buses are a first come first served deally. That being said, there also needs to be reasonable adjustment.

as usual, the "right thing to do" depends on the situation at hand... usually the disabled person has priority, that's for sure, but they aren't the only people in the world either...
In this case they're the least capable of altering their space requirement, so the other party should alter their needs as much as possible (baby on knee, pushchair/pram collapsed and stowed)Quote:

Poking fun at the separation of church and state here in the US. When I worked at a state university we were instructed that we could not say 'Merry Christmas' while at work. Instead we were told to use the politically correct phrase 'Happy Holidays' so as to not offend non-Christians . Not saying there isn't a noticeable difference in who gets shot but I did post a link to the story of an unarmed white teenager who was shot and killed by a black cop, and the story from my old hometown where a white guy celebrating the holiday by shooting his gun up in the air (a common practice in that rural part of the country) was shot and killed by 2 white officers under questionable circumstances... so, at the end of the day there is plenty of hot death to be shared by all. You never know what might prompt an officer to shoot someone when responding to an event. There are so many variables that go into what happens.Quote:

Most of the people here don't. That's not quite the same as no one. It's not even really about America specifically, just about political orientation. Certain individual are exceptionally intolerant of people with differing political opinions, which apparently is something that's becoming very common nowadays. Eh, I didn't really expect you to listen either way. I just find it funny that I almost never actually post my opinion on anything political here, I just point out how poor some of the logic can be.
I actually found a study the other day on political intolerance, I can't seem to find the link to it anymore. Some college grad students and their professor surveyed a few thousand people in I believe New York. They gave the subjects a stack of resumes and asked them who they would hire. The resumes were designed specifically to include clues about the imaginary applicant's race, gender, cultural upbringing, life experiences, political inclination, etc. Funnily enough, things like race and gender had little to no effect on who got "hired", but political orientation was a shoe-in. Democrats virtually only hired democrats, and republicans only hired republicans. It was pretty interesting. I'll have to dig around and see if I can find it again.

The point I'm trying to make is that we should be able to have a conversation on difficult political topics while still being able to walk away from it without absolutely hating the other person just because they don't agree with you on a complex, nuanced subject. On multiple occasions, you and/or one of a handful of other posters here have said extremely insulting things that you may not have even realized was insulting to either myself or to close friends and family of mine. Heck, eldargal literally said "American cops are racist brutes". Not verbatim, but close enough. Two of my best friend's fathers are police officers. Two other very close friends from high school are now police officers, and a third is military police. I'm good friends with five or ten police officers I met through various crossfit gyms. Of the people on this list, half of them belong to various non-white ethnic groups, and there isn't one that I wouldn't trust implicitly. I get what eldargal was trying to say, but she doesn't realize how offensive and insensitive her comment was. It's like when guys attack feminists with sweeping statements like "they just hate men", only with regards to politics rather than sexism. You've done the same on several occasions.Quote:

So what I'm asking is to temper your rhetoric. Try not to insult everyone who belongs to political groups you disagree with. Try not to insult people who disagree with you just because you feel strongly about a particular subject. And don't try to play innocent and brush it off if you get called on it.
