If you're attaching a pic you need to attach it as you've done, post it, then edit the photo and insert the image using the url option while unchecking the box that reads 'Retrieve remote file and reference locally'. I hope that makes sense.

You can't get rid of the thumbnail after attaching as far as I know?
You could try using the photo bucket site as well, very easy. You upload the image to your account, copy the image code and then just paste it in your text. Like this.
