Off-Topic III: The Revengening!

Officer involved shootings happen daily in the US, but in this case I actually know one of the officers who killed this man. Given the character of that officer (he's an *** who should have never passed a psych evaluation to even carry a weapon) I have very little doubt that this was an unjustified killing.

I also had no doubt prior to their "trial" that nothing would be done, as the justice system is corrupt beyond our imagination. Land of the free my lily white ***.

One of the things that came out during the investigation is that the officers never identified themselves but instead rushed the suspect. The suspect did not fire on the officers and may have not even had the weapon in his hands when he was shot.

Sadly prison seems to fail on both counts. Not scary enough to prevent crime and more likely to teach those incarcerated how to be better criminals.

I have had some mates that have spent time inside for drug related offenses. From their description it is an awful place that no one would ever want to go. Some of the people they were locked up with and the guards were quite horrible. Instead of rehabilitation their record made it next to impossible for them to work after they got out and in the end some of them have gotten into far worse things then drugs. Basic needs prove to be stronger then their fear of prison. :(

Dark Eldar codex is looking pretty bland and disappointing, between that and the disappointment with the Eldar codex my interest in 40k is rapidly disappearing. Enthusiasm for End Times and WFB has taken a huge hit too so for the first time in 19 years or something I'm seriously considering giving up WFB and 40k. 40k has become boring as **** after some real promise with supplements and the like. WFB End Times has promise but I'm not confident in GWs ability to deliver, and I just don't give a **** about any of it anymore.

switch to Pen n Paper RPGs? you can still get the setting but have more control over factions you do care about, plus you can use your minis still!

I know where your coming from EG, I just feel the new 40k codexes feels diluted. Fantasy I struggle with anyway. No one I know ever plays it.
At least when Mat Ward wrote a rule book it was fun.
My gaming time is now purely X-Wing, I still enjoy painting GW models. Just not playing the games.

It happens to us all at somepoint.

Over the last 2 years I have painted 7 tactical marines

I've done 2 in the same time period.

It's not like I'm a power gamer or anything either and I don't have a problem with edition creep and whatnot but they have taken the Dark Eldar codex and just made two thirds of the book literally useless. Have to wonder what they were thinking, I mean the ydid to wyches what they did to Banshees, nerf an already average unit. Though Banshees were even worse off really but still its a terrible record.

DOes the fact that I have stripped 50 make my number -43? If so I am not admitting it.

Don't think I've pained anything since I last worked for GW....so that's around 4 years.

As for playing - don't get much of a chance these days. But I do still buy all the books and that, because I enjoy them, and like the look of a bookcase filled with books I have read.

Playing wise it goes in fits and peaks, before I moved house I was getting around a game every week (or more) since moving house I've been sorting all that out.

The trouble for me is that I love the setting but the bits I love most are getting completely neglected. Eldar, Dark Eldar, SoB etc. So with Fw just producing bland, uninspiring Imperium **** and GW making everything increasingly bland and BL just focusing on Marines it's just become thoroughly boring.

I mean I just don't want to read another novel about Marines doing anything. At all. I don't give a **** anymore, it's so damned boring now I just do not care about anything written about Marines.

I recommend pen and paper RPGs then, unisystem is quite good as you can represent anything (hence why it's full name is unified system) and you don't have the imbalance of roled for states meaning you can build your character with a plan in mind, and you can make a universe entirely to your design if you want to have a universe where the matriarchal system was put in place instead of the patriarchal you can, want a world where humans never even existed and instead everyone is a sentient dinosaur (my dream reality) you can, unisystem just allows anything to be done, and it's always funny when someone completely botches their role and something really bad happens

I have a pen and paper group, don't get to paly with them a lot anymore though.:(

Oh I forgot, even the eldar themed novels have been crappy. The craftworld eldar Path of... series was good even if teh ending was a bit crappy, the Dark eldar series started well but the ending was a ****ing disgrace and also killed off the only two women characters who had any character development.

All I want is a character in anything be it tv, book, movie or game that has autism that the producers don't constantly respond to the question of does this character have ASD with no (Sheldon on Big Bang theory is a very accurate representation of someone with autism but the producers regularly put out official statements that he doesn't have it as if it being confirmed would ruin the show to most people)

Yup non-neurotypical characters are rare and positive depictions are even rarer.

I bought Super Dungeon Explore, not opened it yet. I'm waiting until I get to Canada next month. But the models look great fun to paint, the rules seem easy enough to follow and there is a good mix of characters and expansion packs. My kids will be able to play it which is a bonus.
I did get another copy of Space Hulk too, that's going to be more than enough 40k action for me and the clan and for £70 the minis are fantastic.
But as for playing 40k, it just ain't happening. Painting on the other hand. That's soon going to be daily :D

Yeah that looks like an awesome game.

On the plus side, Lelith seem to have pretty great rules.

I'm planing the final stage of my undead army and have the savings to progress towards it but my hobby area is in complete disarray because of some renovation work, so I have to wait a few weeks before I can get the stuff to finish my army's core choices off, and now I'm thinking of converting a giant zombie spinosaurus aegytiacus for use as a varghulf

ha, I'll think I'll take the #winning part, I haven't played a game of WHFB since 1996 and 40K since 1992!

Yeah I still buy the figures and model and paint them, because I enjoy it, but playing the game, I have to agree the games have gotten far to bland lately, and bloated too rules wise, they really need to redo the whole system for both games from scratch like Wizards did with 3rd ed from 2nd ed D&D.

By streamlining and consildating the system, and using Black Library writers to fill out the rule books fluff wise, they could revamp the games in a big way.

Or of course they could go the print on demand and re-release all the old figures that way for their "Specialist" games and throw out the rule books as free (or very cheap IE £5 or less) downloads, get the older fan base back into the fold.

What's a 40k?

While it's bad things got to this stage, it is interesting to note that this is a voluntary decision by Wonga, albeit one feels the FCA might have leaned on them quite heavily.

So we have easily the biggest single short term lender in the UK being a least a little bit proactive in it's approach. Could be too little too late for many, but it's still heartening to see change in progress, and it being lead by a big player in the industry.

Big props to the FCA for being effective in this area, and respek to Wonga for not fighting the regulator every step of the way.

Yep. My hope is they are focusing on getting barebone rulebooks out and we will see the return of more variety and options through supplements

The cynical part of me thinks we are going through a period of GW intentionally trashing their own rules so that the new CEO has an easy time bringing about a renaissance. I have truly high hopes that they will use supplements to flesh out the game... if I'm lucky enough I may live to see a Harlequin supplement. :p

Nah, they think that him being a social freak is funny because "Nerds are such social idiots, ha ha!" and that's the whole premise of the show. Can't go ruining that by giving a reason for the main character to act like he does other than "He's a nerd, they're all ridiculous."

I don't think they're intentionally trying to trash the game, but I do think Kirby is trying to get as much cash as possible by trying to push out a lot of high-priced books and models ASAP. It's not exactly working as the most effective strategy, though.

Seriously though the only times I ever Played Warhammer 40,000 was during the Rogue Trader days, A friend at school brought the 2nd ed boxset, but on seeing ALL the rules split in 3 books, well we gave up and stuck to Warhammer, which was kind of funny since that old High Elf and Night Goblin set also had three books of rules :D

That's not to say though that I don't own the rulebooks, I DO own the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th edition rulebooks (the ones that came with each box set) just don't have anyone local to play against and I don't have the time to travel to get a game in....
