Well it worked out ok so far...
Invasion of Russia successful.
Expect Sweden to attack me next, or possibly the united provinces.
For some reason I can't successfully defeat a particular army in mexico.
Re fought it half a dozen times and always ends in defeat for me, not used to this. Every where else just throwing troops over the walls has worked. got a feeling their general must have stupid high morale.
So I'm importing my first artillery battery from London. 3x24lb howitzers and 3x24lb foot cannon. That'll teach the buggers.
As long as you have the range for it. Have you tried just seiging them?
I keep playing wiht random settings and ended up playing Japan vs. Ethiopia , small world with 2 islands, Japan + 2 city states on the one and Ethiopia and 2 city states on another.
We both had 1 militaristic city state on each island and mine was slightly smaller.
So we built up unaware of each other's presence, my attacking of barbarians got me an ally with my city states, one of which just kept spawing military units for me which was nice. We built up unaware of each other until I sent frigates to find Ethiopia.
By which point my economy was generating so much money i could just focus on producing production rather than gold. Lots of luxuries gave me a very happy poppulation so had a number of golden ages which helped me. I ended up running out of buildings and wonders to build so had periods of just pure research in my four cities to the point where my technology rating was brilliant. This coupled with my gold output ment that I could buy the other two states off to become allies, so then I had another civ spawining military units for me :). I then built the UN a vote was called and I won :)
I hadn't planned it, but Tokoyo was my only city without at least 1 wonder to its name and that was that, a little disapointing by my first game without a war...
I'd hope I have the range
Only used artillery in the quick battles as it slows the shanksmare psuedoblitzkreig.
Seiging leads to them sallying. same problem.
I've butchered armies with a fraction of the enemy IDK why this one is giving me so much trouble.
When I had a 1vs1 small civ5 game I can't remember who I was but I know the Americans wouldn't stop attacking me...
From what I recall, with my foot artillery placed as far forwards as possible (obviously depending on map) you can take out the nearest wall of the fort, anything behind that is out of range.
I suppose that'll do. Then I can stand around taunting them till they're in Howitzer range then push some cavalry through the breach.
That's what I do, make a breach, they then either line up behind it or just infront (some times the AI does wierd things) then I charge a wedge of horse through them. Supported by foot to shoot them if the charge fails. (Though hopefully the charge will be enough to break them).
While they are distracted by the frontal attack, I send a company over a side wall to take the flag (or two) Grenadiers or Guards are good for that.
Not how I usually do it but we'll see how it goes...
The suicide squad, at the least starts to take down the 2m inute counter and depending how well occupied the fort is it can add support fire to the rear of the enemy foot.
Though obviously, if the fort is full then you wouldn't want to do that...
I usually do that while all the others are fighting on the battlements.
If theres cavalry I'll throw them into the nearest building to deal with the pesky horsemen first, then jump on the flag.
