I've always played longer games on bigger worlds in all the civs. It always leads to massive amounts of management.
E:TW has reached the point where I'm making 40k profit a turn, and also my fleet of first rates is awesome.

once you are making money in ETW you can forget everything and just build armies to dominate europe & india, then the navy just to protect the trade posts.
In reality the naval game is worth very little. In my last game as russia, the first time I built a navy was for "Operation: Liberty" to bring liberty to the americas
I wiped out the foreign navies by taking their home ports.
Then built one fleet to finish them off. I've only built a quality fleet now to defend my indiamen now russia declared war, but it turns out they haven't really got any ships any way...
Well they start out without any ports so need crimea, before the ones up by archangelansk develope.
Ah. That'd do it...
Yes it is a pain, playing Russia you have to make the land grab for crimea for an easy port, or ignore the naval side of things until you need a boat to transport armies to the new world, UK and other islands.
I'm not sure I understand.
How come you aren't playing as Great Britain?
Been there done that. It is too easy to take out France.
Wait until they are embroiled in a war and have their armies facing Austria/Prussia then just waltz in and bonus.
I didn't even consider that, I just knew I needed their NA territory to secure the 13 colonies...
You can knock out France and Spain quite easily, then the colonies in the new world will form new factions which is a great limit for them. Though the trouble is trying to keep Paris and Madrid as they will both revoult against your rule even with excempting them from tax. So be prepared to loose two armies to sit in the capitols for quite a while.
I did play one game where Hannover wiped out France, which was really surreal.
