That works too. But the aim is to come in on smaller boats, damage to the point where it is instant boarding, or one volley the board.
All about efficiency :D
Well if you like smaller boats I guess, personally I like ones with a bit more booty.;)
Yeah but they shoot back, and then I have to get new crew, and I've just got this one working correctly.
You know how difficult it is to get new help?
Also this explains pyroland

Order crew to take cover before broadsides hit, it slows damage down but keeps 'em alive.:) Plus you can always capture some smaller ships after and replenish crew numbers.
True. but the ram is cheaper than new cannons as well :D
I'll get cannons as well at some point.
I remember playing a merchant shipping game, it was very old, set in the napolionic era. The more cannon and shot you had the less you could transport, and consequently, so there was a trade-off between defense and cargo. However, if you didn't have any cannon, then pirates and enemy nationals would not fire on you, instead they would come alongside and try and board. So rather than taking any cannon, I took as many marines as I could, the consequence of this was that enemy ships would always try and board and fail, so then in the ensuing battle I would take their ship instead.
It was exploiting AI behaviour, but given the game running in Dos Box moved too quickly to aim and shoot cannon it was a good compromise!
What game was that? sounds interesting.
High Seas Trader, available where abandonware exists I would imagine.

Bought FTL, Dark Souls 1 and the HD Age of Empries II. Not had a chance to play them.
planning to buy Age of Mythology
FTL is addictive as hell, played it last night.><
Yep sounds about right.
Just remember Fire your weapons manually!
Depends... on weapons with a high rate of fire it doesnt pay. you probably even lose damage if you dont hit every timing exactly.
nah because auto fire usually waits just long enough for them to raise their shields again. It helps to concentrate all your weapons fire at once.
Downloaded a L4D2 mod last night called something like "totally innocent" no description of what it did, but the user comments were hilarious.
Turns out it replaces all the posters, pictures, billboards, vending machine frontage etc with hentai
Vulcan? Is that post patch? I don't recognise that weapon.
GOG.com is giving away free games every couple of hours.
Currently Alan Wake's American Nightmare
Free? it says 80% off when I log in...
But got an Point and Click Adventure for free... Beneath a steel sky. #retrofeelings
It was free but expired 11 minutes after my post.
Bit disappointed in FTL. Great time limited scavenging and exploration game with many different strategies to take down ships and so forth and then it ends with a boss battle where you really need to have certain loud outs and equipment not to mention a fully upgraded ship. Which I never get enough scrap to do even exploring as much as I can and slowing enemy fleets as much as possible. Plus complete pot luck with weapons. Mehhh. Shouldn't have been a boss fight like that, should have been something more in keeping with the rest of the game.
Wish they made a sandbox version where it was just you evading the authorities scavening against increasingly tough opposition or something.
Yeah maybe with an option to 'win' at the end of each map (not sector) so you can warp home or keep going sort of thing, going on makes it mroe difficult but can get higher and higher score and such.
