See I like lonewolfing occasionally. But when I get flanked or shot in the back it's nobodies fault but my own. you're unlucky when you end up on a server like that.

I haven't got very far to be honest, got a Wickes destroyer that I enjoy and a South Carolina battleship. St Louis is fun as well, I like firing single shots on broadsides, with a two second delay I can basically fire continuously and have a constant hail of shells in the air, which is very satisfying.
yeah the St.Lou is quite the brawler! Switching to the Phoenix after that will initially feel like a huge downgrade - the difference in raw firepower is enormous. But the Phoenix has its own qualities that make it hella fun to play - much longer range, and its and incredible speed and maneuverability plus decent Torpedos make it feel like a Destroyer that forgot it's supposed to be made out of paper...
The next tier Battleship, the Wyoming, is just straight better than the SoCal though - it's pretty much got 30-50% more everything; armour, hitpoints, range and most importantly firepower (six dual turrets instead of four!), so if you like your SoCal you'll love the Wyoming!
just had another few games now. when the hell did the bots become good? I haven't played for about a week, before then you pretty much won every time, now we are getting obliterated. plus I was duelling with another Southern California, got the drop on it, had more health, landed more hits, and it sank me
havent played against bots in a while except to get the hang of carriers, and there the bots were all too easy to hit with torps...
in battleship duels, one of the main factors is ammunition used vs. armor presented - ideally, you want to shoot AP straight into his broadside, under the funnels preferably because that'S where most ships have their citadels (think 10k dmg per citadel hit and you're not far off, maybe a bit less with the 12"ers you've got... basically WoWS's crits), while presenting him as steep an angle on your own armour as possible so that more of his shots just bounce off you. There's always a bit of luck involved though, especially with shell spreads at longer range - those kept NOPEing me today :)
I can heartily recommend IChase's Captains Academy - lots of great tips, even on the outdated videos from before open beta - the basic thoughts and concepts often haven't changed even if the exact mechanics have
yeah the So Cal is wildly inaccurate which is frustrating when it takes so long to reload
