ive looked around the website a bit, i noticed there wasn't much custom eldar paint schemes. So since i am new here, what custom paint schemes for eldar have yall seen?
its been years since I last played 40k, so im havign ot relearn a lot of thigns about the game, so im starting simple, gonna give my eldar a freash coat of paint and some minor repairs etc.
Ok now for the fun stuff. im planning on going with a blazing orange primary color with certian panels painted pure white. i think i have a tank here i was working on were i was useing a orange//yellow mix to highlight the edges of the orage armor plates. ive kinda gotten stuck on one thing tho, what do yall think would be a good pilots uniform color to contrast a orange tank?
And i do have a digital camera and i'll be postign some picts of my owrk as i figure out how to link/post the pics lol

Ok i actually found a tank i was starting to redo about 4months ago, i even torn it apart to add Blue LED's in the engines and i found my ol farseer that has had the same paint on him since i first painted him. Needless to say Ive got a bit of touch up work.

Hrmmmm, Duke i think i might be able to do that, because my next Led/light up mod i have planned is for my Fire prism tank(which i love those tanks) but i really dislike the new model GW did.
So.....I'll be doing some mods to my spare falcons ot convert them to fire prisms etc.
the sooner i can find a place were i can get a chunk of quartz or a salt crystal as i was told. I'm gonna take and cut / carve the crystal to a shape similar to the classic fire prism cystal and mount it in such a way that i have a really bright LED right behind the crystal so it lights up. figured it would look really cool.

Have you considered not mounting the long barrel part, which is a separate piece, and just using the included clear "crystals" (possibly with some cutting as well)? The complaint I've heard the most is that people don't like the barrel.
Also, nice LED work. Should look very cool once the whole thing is a bit more finished.

looks like i need to answer a few questions...
About the New fire-prism, you guys nailed it, its the barrel, and atm, im having to make do with that I have. :(
I have 2 wave serpents, 3 falcons and 1 fire prism, lot cheaper for me to customize my falcons to be either or kinda thing then to go out and buy whole new models which i don't need.
I have about 5-10 lbs of random bitz form all over GW and other model ranges, so conversions won't be all that difficult.
Now the thought did occur to me that since i have sooo much eldar, i could ebay some of them to fund new up to date minis........
Now as for the 2 fuegan's........ as i said i have lots of eldar. Mainly due to buying some of my eldar off ebay ive gotten some duplicates of certain special characters. I am going to paint one fuegan to my custom army scheme and paint one ot sell based off the fuegan in the codex
Hrmmm if i were to buy the new fire-prism kit, i really doubt id build it as a fire prism, are there data sheets for the night-spinner to use in normal 40k games//store tournaments?
And you guys wouldn't believe the amount of red underlining this auto spell checker does to me!

There are official rules for the Night Spinner in WD365, from June this year. It's the issue with half of the Spearhead rules in it.
If anyone objects to that, point to the part where it states that the Night Spinner is a new entry for Codex: Eldar.

well lets say you dont want to see 1/2 of my posts (or my handwriting :P)
and the new kits not hard to magnetise, just paly about how you want to do it and, id say just glue the larger spinner caps on (they look cooler and mean its more posible :P)

Sorry about not posting a updater to the fire-dragons yesterday, my internet went out. you guys wouldn't believe the line the ISP gave us over why it was out........."there was a fire in on of the buildings that we have a distribution hub in and as a result of the fire the hub lost power."
Now back to the fire dragons. i went ahead an finished 1 dragon to get a feel of how my idea would pan out, and well to be honest it feels like its lacking a certain detail that i can't quite put my finger on yet. Here's a pic of the little guy, don't worry hes a fire-dragon so hes used to flame wars........
give me your 2 cents over some ideas to really take my dragons from "meh" to "Cool"
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o36/Chewbaccalee/100_0394.jpg
I Ike the helmet idea, I think the orange is a little too orange, per haps look into some washes and build the orange back up. Maybe gryphon sepia would wash orange well? Also, the gems on the helm could use a little love. All in all I think the changes are minor and these will look great when finished.
Good luck and give us updates!

finish the jems and black wash the armour... whilst it looks good Orange and white it has very little depth. id say a black wash the highlights on the armour and if you want your sqauds oo look great heres a simple (time consuming method)
1) base coat codex grey
2) paint a slightly lighter grey everywher - shadows and deep recesses,
3) repeat the more times the smoother the blend

Duke could you describe that gryphon sepia wash color? is it like a yellowish//brownish type of wash?
I don't have that particular color, but i do have the paints to mix up my own custom wash.
yeah just going off the picture it does look like the helmet could use a pastel gray like wash to bring out more detail.
As for the flame pattern on the helmet, i was thinking about going over it with some shads of purple to make it look more like flame, but i think that would clash over all with the purple gems wouldn't it?
for the red// yellow gems on the head i think im just going to Paint over them, and either make them green gems or paint them like lizard scales.

hey chewbaccalee, just my two cents but how about some white on the body on some of the body panels to break the solid orange look.
chewbaccalee
08-31-2010, 01:09 PM
hrmm so its sounding like i need ot paint some armor plates on the lower body white, while at same time inking the orange armor to make the armor stand out more, while over all tweaking the detail up some

Alternativly give the armour a heavy red wash, then go over the "raised" bits of the armour in the orange you've used already

time to pull out the fire extinguisher,
I get what yall are saying about useing red ink, or yellow ink to shade the orange thats already o nthe model, but that changes the color scheme away from "orange skittle eldar" i do agree the dragons could use some extra highlights and i'll bend a little and mix up a orage that has quite a bit more yellow then red and use that as a highlight for certain armor patches\
as it stands the orange you see on the current dragons is the base color, Now however i will take and redo the 3 speaical dragons, fuegan, and hte 2 exarchs down to a gray primer, then a heavy white drybrushing going back to the "fatigues" between the armor plates with a light gray wash, then dry brushing yellow over certain armor plates, and thne finally i'll give the whole model a red-Orange ink wash. That should give the speacial characters the extra detail they deserve.
im making this post while i wait on the paint i just put on the dragon to dry. or i could hold it up to this forum and heat off it will dry it quickly

Hey there.
These guys are looking pretty damn good! It's a nice change to the normal Orange you see on the Dragons. Helm looks nice too. Can't wait to see what you do next!
On the subject of personal colour schemes, there are a few nice ones around. If I might point you to my Plog on these forums for your viewing, you'll see a new Craftworld colour scheme! Craftworld Arithym. (http://www.lounge.belloflostsouls.net/showthread.php?t=10151)

Looking good! Love the orange, totally under-represented color in terms of what you see on the table-top. Looks especially great on Eldar. The Autarch looks great, cheers on the wings they look fantastic. And BTW the classic Fire Dragons also look fantastic. I think they are the best looking version of the Fire Dragons GW has produced. Way to go looking forward to seeing more.
I concur wholeheartedly with Autarch here. :D

got a little update to show, started repainting my gloried Falcon, pulse laze, brightlance, suiriken cannon upgrades, IF i run this i run it with a farseer casting guide on it everyturn. well the little problem is i jsut got done doing my Pre shading with an airbrush template and well fellas im pretty much 50/50 on jsut simply detailing it out AS IS instead of appling the orange paint layer which would end up the skin of the falcon looking amphibian ish... like armor. well enoguh ranting heres the pic.
