Hey guys.

I’ve put in a fair few hours trying to get this fella painted up and finished. He's not quite 100% done yet, a few touch ups and some added battle damage are needed, but he's close enough to finished for me to use him as my avatar :D

It's a truescale (actual scale actually) conversion on a 40mm base. The original concept in my mind was to have him with a back mounted beamer and big sturdy looking boots that anchor him to the floor. I also wanted a helm similar to the one off the techmarine featured in DoW2, and opted to convert the head and torso from the thunderfire cannon techmarine. The tool in his right hand is a wrench and with his modified thunder hammer are the perfect tools for repairs and beating armour back into shape ;)

The legs are entirely self sculpted, as are the shoulder pads and lots of little details. The tendrils are all made from guitar string. Conversion beamer is based off an upside down lascannon, with the shooty end being off the techmarine's original backpack. The backend is a cut down missile launcher. There are also a huge number of bits from my bitzbox that I just can't identify.

Normally I paint a lot of my models in parts and assemble the finished thing at the end, but because this was just one solid piece and proved extremely fiddly at times. Although it’s technically finished (at I'd be happy to game with it) I think I can make some improvements and battle damage always looks cool on yellow armour, and is one of the reasons I want to collect a Lamenters force.

I forgot to take size comparison photo today but will try to remember when I finish adding battle damage.

I’ve always intended to use this conversion in the header of my website as well as a new avatar for forum and blog use. He’ll also feature as one of the HQs in my Lamenters army (it'll probably be the 41st millenium before it's finished).

Someone on my website pointed out how it reminded him of Iron Man which never registered with me as I painted him (despite having an Iron Man poster above my painting desk). This makes me even more pleased with the final scheme I settled on.

Anyone know of any good guides to painting battle damage? I have done it before but never quite got the results I was looking for.

I absolutely love this model. Great work. I've been following your progress with it on another forum. It looks great painted.
Can you give us a run down on the various bits.
I'd like to know what you used as a basis for the legs? I saw them with the green stuff modelled on them but I couldn't see what was underneath.
Brilliant model. I want one for my Iron Hands.

Thats badass. And makes me very jealous both of painting and sculpting skills

Thanks. The parts are so many and varied it's pretty difficult to say where most parts came from other than what I posted above. I tend to cut down and modify a lot of tiny bits, but I do know a lot came from vehicle kits. The legs very resin casts of legs I'd made previously but weren't very good (hence I sculpted over them).

Here's a link to the most recent photo I have of it unpainted:

Excellent, you finished it. I've been following this on your website, and wondering when we were going to see it painted up. It looks excellent.

What's a conversion beamer? What's its profile? lol

I just finished putting together this second techmarine, loosely based on my previous Master of the Forge and this awesome illustration (http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&global=1&q=techmarine#/d2o84x4). This one was completed far more quickly than the previous one as there was far less planning and forethought going in to it, even so I have to say I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

The build itself is pretty self explanatory. The backpack ending up being rebuilt from plastic bits because I'd chopped it up to try something out on the MotF that didn't pan out. I left off the second servo arm from the harness because it just made the model look too crowded and so opted for an exhaust made from a missile launcher bit.

Looks good, the legs and backpack in particular. I would probably have gone for a bigger servo arm though.

How do you get such sharp edges on your green stuff work on the legs?
