Command Squad Interaction with other units

So, I've gotten around to building and painting a command squad for my Salamanders army (OMG, It's not just Hes'tan and a zillion meltas!) and now I need to figure out how it works. Here are my questions:

Does the Captain have to join the command squad?

Can other ICs join the command squad?

Should I be thinking of the Command squad as just a regular 5 man tactical squad as far as how it interacts with other characters?

For some reason I have this thought that the command squad is a super squad that can join other squads and crap like that, but I know it isn't. Ha!

A command squad works just like any other squad. Any IC can join, or choose not to join.

A command squad acts like an independent HQ unit- it can act on its own, or an IC can join it. I'm not sure, but I think multiple HQ units can join the command squad.

just the same as ANY OTHER squad if you want a tRUE command squad have a =][= or GK grand master :D

Everyone's got it right. Just keep in mind that they ARE NOT a retinue...I've made that mistake before.
