View Full Version : Might be selling a Warhound and a Shadow/Stormlord, any tips on realistic prices?

Well I've grown weary of Super-Heavies as of late as I'm the only person in my gaming group that owns any (they tend to imbalance the game and ruin the fun for all involved) so I might be looking to get rid of a couple. I have a Forge World Chaos Warhound Titan and a GW Shadowsword/Stormlord that would be first on the chopping block.

The GW Shadowsword/Stormlord has been assembled and magnetized so that all six tanks can be produced. All of the necessary weapons and armor plates are modular except for the sponsons themselves and the Heavy Bolters inside of the sponsons. The Lascannons on top of the sponsons are magnetized. The tank isn't even primed and so it is still in its factory plastic gray.

Now things get a bit odd, the Chaos Warhound. When I got the Warhound it was beaten up, the Vulcan Mega-Bolter was broken off, and just in overall bad shape. Seeing as how many of the protruding spikes were broken off and I am a SM player, I cleared the model of all signs of chaos and turned it into a standard Imperial Warhound. I also added a new FW Turbo-Laser arm to replace the now loose Vulcan Mega-Bolter (which I still have and I would include if I sold it). I also cut off the void shield generators and magnetized them so that they can act as counters for the shields during a game. The end effect is an Imperial Warhound showing significant damage (as the chaos one features tons of little holes and gashes in the armor) except for on a brand-spanking-new Turbo Laser.

The interior of the Titan is torn up as well. Since there is virtually no way of salvaging the crew of a Chaos Warhound, I decided to cut out the interior to make room for LEDs, a battery, and a switch to give the effect of a glowing cockpit. Due to work and school, I've never finished this and the interior of the Titan is only partially cleared.

I'll add pictures of both items tomorrow to better aid with a judgement on appropriate pricing, but based on these brief descriptions can anyone offer some good starting points?

The magnetized Stormlord/Shadowsword could probably be sold at or around GW retail price. The magnetization is nice and makes up for the loss in value when you take the bits off of the sprue.

The hard part about selling a titan is finding a buyer. They often sell for less than their value because it's tricky to find either a local buyer or someone willing to pay shipping.

Seeing as all the Warhound has been through I really don't expect to get close to full retail for it and its arms (plasma blastgun and turbo laser). Its just been a project that I'm not so sure I want to finish and I would rather it be in the hands of someone inspired to paint it up and enjoy it.

Eh, magnetization is not worth as much as most people think it is. You could probably get $75-$80 shipped, since it's not primed. I've seen unpainted plastic super-heavies selling at $65 unshipped these days, so I would not overestimate too much on the magnetization.

As for the titan, I'd expect to sell that at a price significantly below the FW price. The moment you start taking a knife to it, especially with battle damage and lights, resale value tends to drop dramatically. If you get more than $350 shipped for it, I'll be somewhat surprised.

I'm not so sure you should be quite so pessemistic, it all depends on the potential buyers you reach, in my experience to some groups the value of a Warhound or any other big FW kit goes up once it's been assembled as some people just can't be bothered with that despite wanting such a lovely piece of kit.

The secret is to start low, advertise lots and to wait and see, it will sell and when it comes to FW it will sell for a good price. Personlly I'd bet it would sell for not too far below the FW price depending on the actual damage, it's really difficult to judge it without any pictures though.

I took some pictures today but since there are a lot of them, I decided to just post links to the photobucket galleries. Each photo does have a description that explains what was done to the pictured piece (unless the work done is obvious or resembles a previous photo). If you have any questions about any of the images though feel free to post your question here and I'll respond to it.

Warhound (the Chaos Vulcan Mega-Bolter is not pictured but it is just as it comes from Forge World and will be included):

So what do you guys think?

Your Shadowsword/Stormlord should get its money back what with its condition and the fact you've built it which some people might have found daunting. I wouldn't expect the titan to get its money back though
