I already read that models cannot assault on the turn that they arrive, but does this apply to the Drop Pod Assault rules as well? Is there no way besides a Land Raider to get assault Terminators in close combat quickly?

I'm thinking of starting a space wolves army (I previously played Black Templar), and I'm trying to find a way to make use of some assault-based Wolf Guard Terminators without having to use a Land Raider.

Unfortunatly there is only the Landraider option for moving Termies around and still letting them assault. For reasons known only to GW Drop pods (the very essence of assault vehicles) do not allow you to assault out of them.

It's right there in the Drop Pod Assault rule: "A unit that Deep Strikes via Drop Pod cannot assault the turn it arrives." Also, I wouldn't say you can't get into assault quickly from drop pod; chances are you'll be able to assault something turn 2, you'll just got shot up before then.

Because it would be unbalanced as hell  If you don't understand what is insanely lethal about allowing nearly infallible automatic turn 1 deep strike assaults, especially for Dreadnoughts, I'm not sure how to explain it.

You could always use the FW dreadnought drop pods. You CAN assault out of those.

No good for regular marines/terminators though.

I do understand why you cannot assault out of a drop pod for game play reasons.

I was pointing out how the rule doesn't mesh with fluff, practical considerations from a "real wolrd" perspective and is contrary to the basic rules for assaulting from an open top vehicle.

As far as being "insanely lethal" that's due to how the drop pod rules are written, the rules could just as easily have been written to allow assaults on the turn you arrive without being game breaking.

How would automatic turn 1 assaults every game guaranteed not be game-breaking? There would need to be some sort of mega-overwatch to counter that. Because seriously.

The FW Dreadnought pod that lets you assault out of it is thirty-one flavors of B.S. for this very reason.

"Yeah, my dude always shots up pretty much right where I want him and always on the first turn and no you don't get to shoot him, he only arrives on my turn and on your turn he's tied up in CC. Oh, and he's AV13 on the front so even Power Fists need sixes to penetrate him."

What part of needing to rewrite the rules didn't you get? Who said that there would be turn one assaults under the rewritten rules? To give an example of possiable rules that could work:

Remove the "Drop Pod assault" rule. No longer do half of your Drop pods come in on turn one, instead they arrive the same way as normal reserves .

Drop pods scatter as normal per the deepstrike rules. Now you run the risk of loosing your assault unit to a mishap.

Raise the points cost of the Drop pod to 105 points. Now your vehicle costs the same as three Rhinos not one, but remains far cheaper than a Landraider.

Not saying that these are the best ideas however they would make Drop pods more interesting.
