Thought I'd share with you guys my latest addition to Hive Splinter Borlin (http://hivesplinterborlin.blogspot.com/)

It was a simple bit of modelling, but gives a more dynamic pose to the static trygon kit.

for more info and pics go to this blog post (http://hivesplinterborlin.blogspot.com/2010/06/fizz-pop-rumble-rumble-rarrrrr.html)

Cheers

Very cool. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to use this with my own Trygon/Mawloc when I get it.

Cheers guys,

The base was the fun bit for this model, it's difficult to make the model look like it actually came from underground, without being able to make a hole more than 4mm deep.

I'm not a big 'nid fan except when they're all dead, but yours are very well done. I especially like the color combo kudos on that.
Respects, Emperorsaxe

Haha! yeah my thoughts exactly

I'm a Guard player at heart, so when i thought about collecting a force to oppose my beloved Lucky 88th, i couldn't resist the Starship Troopers feel of a horde of slashing nids overunning an imperial guard defence line.

The colour-scheme is based on a forgeworld Scythed Heirodule, and their original Trygon, which were in this green/white scheme, but modified to be painted quickly.

I have got some strict rules for my nid army though

you'll notice the total and utter lack of "guns" in this small force, the entire army is scythes and claws only.

the only ranged weapons allowed will be psychic powers(which i'm trying to avoid as much as possible), template weapons (as long as they are swarms or breathing fire/toxic) or electrostatic weaponry from the trygons. no hand held guns at all and no hand held boneswords.

it makes the army tactically knife-edge, but it definately looks cooler when facing an imperial gunline

Cheers for the comment

I wonder if you could use wood filler to build the base up, and model flying debris onto it. Sorta give it the "bursting from the ground" feel.

funny you should say that, because i do have plans to build a mawloc bursting from the ground, the only daunting part for me is sculpting a "more upright" body

the idea is to make the model pointing completely vertical, head and all (also moulding the head upright could be fun!) have it bursting from the ground, with flying debris etc.

obviously Avantine beat me to it with this BoLS post (http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2010/06/40_13.html)

but i did see this youtube video linked in the comments of Avantines post

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mEDrWHomdk

I really like the way the marines are just exploding out of the base, and the way the crater looks "torn open"

apparently this is achived using cork board, so i might have to try and get my hands on some before i pick up another trygon/mawloc kit.

the ony issue i have is that i won't be able to use the "pinchy" clawed tail end (as it will be underground) which will be a little disapointing, but oh well. :D
