I am a Bug player. I almost always run with boneswords and lashwhips. The way I've always seen lashwhips applied in local games is that anyone attacking a unit with lashwhips will fight on Initiative1...

Recently I was in a game with this guy who said that only his front line would be fighting at initiative1... those models not in base-to-base (the back line and the line behind that) would be fighting on their regular initiatives...

Is that how it is supposed to be played?

Cheers.

Yes, it is. If you double check your codex, you'll see that lash whips only affect models in base contact with the lash whip-equipped model. I think of it as the front rank getting entangled by the whips and inadvertently keeping them busy, so the second, third, and fourth ranks can take advantage of their comrades' misfortune and attack unmolested.

Indeed, though the phrasing in that last part made me get an unfortunate image of tentacles.
