I've been collecting an Adeptus Mechanicus army since the end of last year. Originally this was started because I was given a pile of classic Space Crusade Space Marine models, and wanted to find *something* to do with them. Most standard Marine chapters were too boring: I considered Space Wolves and Pretty Marines, but wanted to do something more special. And I love converting!

So I came up with the idea of making them a steampunk successor chapter to the Iron Hands. Over the months this idea morphed into just making an Adeptus Mechanicus army. Fluff-wise I call them Praetorians, although my Praetorians are more about heavy armour & cybernetics rather than the more common gene-bred Ogyrnesque creatures.

Anyway. Enough chat, have some pictures! All these photos link to their bigger versions on Flickr. For more, go to my blog http://admech.blogspot.com/ or my Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/47446154@N08/sets/72157624191172526/

Rules-wise they could count as Space Marines, Space Wolves, Chaos Space Marines, Witch Hunters, Necrons... Whatever I feel like, really! So far I've just been using them as Space Wolves, but I'm looking to try out some other stuff.

The army is currently around 1,500 pts- not all of it is displayed here, but I've got a Techno-Magi Lord (normally my Rune Priest), two Techpriests (Iron Priests) plus their servitors, 4 Praetorian Defender squads (Grey Wolves) and 3 Praetorian Support squads (Long Fangs). I'm currently putting the finishing touches on a converted a Praetorian Assault squad (Blood Claws / Wolf Guard), and an Avatar of the Machine God converted from Nightbringer (possibly to use as a Thunderwolf Lord? Or as a Daemon Prince in CSM?)

I'm not really very good at the whole gaming side, but you can read battle reports and army lists and so on at http://admech.blogspot.com/

Double posting isn't good, I know, but have one last photo that shows how I made the models: they're Space Marine torsoes with all iconography removed, then with added Westwind Productions Wierd World War II gasmask heads and lots of Green Stuff...

This is a really well done army thats practically dripping with character. Any chance we could get a closer look at those transports?

In GW Oxford they're known as the "Razorbricks"!

They were two horrible paint-encrusted Mk1 Rhinos I was given at the same time as my Space Crusade models. Two nights before my first game everyone told me I needed to add mobility, so I built & painted these! They're very very simple, as I had next to no time.

The servitors on the top are magnetic, so they can be removed to turn the vehicles into Rhinos or to show weapon destroyed results.

These are absolutely gorgeous!

Edit: I've been thinking about these models all night, and my tiny one-line post just doesn't do them justice.

With the goggles, flared Mk. 1 helmets and rolling Gothic boxes, it's like an alternate WWI science fiction story. Sure, I can imagine these models facing off against horrors from beyond the stars. But they'd also be right at home in the trenches, surrounded by barbed wire, shell craters and mustard gas.

The scenery and photography make it even better. Great work all the way around, miteyheroes!

Yes- this is entirely what I was aiming at! Thank you :D Basically, I wanted an army that wouldn't look out of place facing The Doctor...

The scenary is entirely thanks to Games Workshop Oxford's huge cities of death board. It's a marvellous piece of terrain, which I totally took advantage of!

GW Oxford were also kind enough to put my army in their cabinet as a showcase of local talent after I won a painting competition. Entirely undeserved, my paint jobs are incredibly crude (drybush / wash badab black / redrybrush)

Wow! GW Oxford is my local and I really should stop by more - perhaps with the Lost and the Damned (will count as Guard) army I'm working on (too slowly I might add)...that's great stuff though! Hope to see it in the flesh one day...

It fills my heart with joy to see so much Mechanicus-related content on this site as of late. A brilliant and origional army machine brother :).

Shouldn't they count as Guard, using an all-Veterans army, or as an Inquisition force, using an all-Stormtroopers army with priests in power armor representing techpriests? Which would also represent hellguns better...

The models themselves are awesome by the way. Just curious about your choice of codex.

I occasionaly use the Marine codex to represent my AdMech, because it gives 'em the appearance of a hardened group of cybernetically enhanced veterans who are more machine than man and thus stronger, faster, and tougher. Master of the Forge for HQ to represent the senior Magos, Dreads for Praetorians, and 10-man scout units for troops for the building blocks, then you just take it from there.

Yeah, they could easily be either of those options. That's the beauty of this army, I can basically play it as whatever I want... They could be any type of Marine, or Guard Vets, or Inquisition Stormtroopers, or Sisters, or Necrons. My first AdMech army, five or so years ago, ran as Eldar!

I'm currently running them as Marines because I want these to be the most elite creations of my Techpriests, something bigger and stronger and tougher than mere Guard. But I could certainly run them as Guard if I wanted.

And no-one in store has yet complained about me running them as Space Marines. The models are mostly made of Space Marine bits, they're mostly armed with Space Marine weapons (bar a few old Space Crusade heavy weapons) and they're taller than Space Marines. On the other hand I do see what you mean, the lower half is unarmoured. Oh well.

The Nightbringer has long been one of my favourite GW models, and I've been dying for an excuse to buy him. Now that I'm playing Adeptus Mechanicus, and in our in-store campaign I've been siding with the Necrons, this seemed the perfect time...

This is a very simple little conversion, just to get him finished & on the table as soon as possible. The shoulder pads were Space Marine tank crew, the axe head was a vintage techmarine's, and the backpack is a few Cities of Death bits (to match my Techno-Magi Lord).

In our local GW campaign my Adeptus Mechanicus had been visited by the Deceiver in disguise as the Machine God: I couldn't resist converting something to represent that!

Mine's just a quick & simple effort. A much much cooler AdMech Nightbringer is this one: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/229548.page
