I recently picked up some GK stuff on clearance at my store, and I was thinking of sticking them in my Space Marine Army. Primarily 5 GK termies and a small GK squad with 2 psycannons deep striking per the GK rule (ie it counts as a fast slot), so because I keep hearing different things from different people I want to know if its a legal set up.

1 HQ
1 ellites
1 fast
2 troops
^or something like that.

Per page 21 of the daemonhunters codex, you can add 0-1 HQ, 01- Elite, 0-2 Troops, and 0-1 Fast Attack choices from the daemonhunters codex to a space marine army, and the Teleport Attack rule doesn't specify that PAGK are only Fast Attack slots in a daemonhunters army, so yes, your setup sounds quite legal.

excellent, thanks lads, I thought that was how it worked, but I don'tt have my book on my ATM, and a friend was questioning the legality of it!

Right. Allying out of DH/WH armies is pretty straighforward. It's allying Space Marine or IG in that gets complicated.

You can take Grey Knights with your space marines, but you cant take space marines with your grey Knights.
