Does anyone know if tamiya's 1/48 scale vehicles match up with 40k scale? Im looking for some humvee's for my guard army and i found some for pretty cheap, just waiting to see if they are the right size.

Thanks in advance,
Brithian Ranger.

They should be close.

32mm is roughly 1/60th scale, I have seen 1/56 scale used with 25-28mm and it looked good.

From what I've experienced with other scales, 1:48 isn't quite right, but it is pretty close. If you want a direct comparision you need, approximately, 1:45 scale for Imperial Guard and something like about 1:40 to fit Space Marine or Orks.

Unfortunately, the standard scales for replica miniatures tend to be on a base-12 system, so 1:36, 1:48, 1:72. Naturally this means that 1:48 is usually your best bet if you are willing to do a little conversion, though 1:36 may sit more naturally with larger models.

On the otherhand, if you are willing to go quite heavy with your conversions you can of course use whatever scale you like! For example I've recently created a pair of Ork Fighta-Bommers from a 1:48 scale A-10 Thuinderbolt/Warthog and a 1:72 scale WWII Lancaster Bomber. Both have been adjusted to fit an Ork pilot and some Gretchin crew (though a good few of these are hanging on the outside) and despite being very different scales, and different again from 40k, sit quite nicely next to each other and the rest of my 40k forces.

My Ork Meks are quite proud of their battlewagon wihich was once a German APC from WWII (Sdkfz 260) on a 1/36 scale. Compared to a GW battlewagon it's almost exactly the same size.

yeah, I recently made a dropship from a 1/36 chinook, but that was quite enormous. thanks for your help, i will be ordering the hummvee's soon, as well as some 1/48 tigers for leman russ conversions.

Thank you all for your help,
Brithian Ranger

I have just started using 1/48 scale kits to use in my 40k armiies due to the cost of GW kits but you need to be caraful which kits you use as 1/48 tanks are just too small to fit in so for this I use modern 1/35 armour which seems to fit will,
Rule I use;- Wheels use 1/48,Tracks use 1/35.

Good luck please post some pics ASAP as I would like to see them!:D

So, 1/35 Abrams tanks would work? I've always read that an M1 would annihilate a Land Raider...

How so? I can't imagine it'd be easy to draw direct comparisons between sci-fi and modern, but I'm fairly sure two twin-linked Godhammer lascannons would make light work of an Abrams' armor...

M-1s in 1/35 are also closer to the size of a Baneblade, but undergunned in comparison.

lol, this is like when the younger lads in our gaming club play 40k versus fantasy.

all i can say is that a wooden stick is just that, a wooden stick. and woud suck against even the basic flak armour worn by imperial guardsmen, let alone the power armour of a marine.

it would stand to reason that nothing, modern day or early history would be anywhere near capable of destroying any vehicle utilised by any 40k army, the weapons are of a higher standard, and even the most basic vehicles will be more armoured than our modern day tanks by comparison.

Ever seen the original Warhammer Siege book, they had rules for mixing 40k and Fantasy. But that was back in the days when the systems were closer and 40k had save mods.
