I recently converted and painted up this mini as a Salamanders version of Sergeant Telion (good ol' "counts as").

For further rantings on the conversion, you can visit my blog. (http://gardenninjastudios.blogspot.com/2010/06/ghillie-suit.html)

I also subscribe to the Salamanders as dark brown, not pitch black. Still not sure how I feel about my fav chapter's supposed look as if they'd been cleaning chimneys.

Also-- F'n stellar job on the lava/light sourcing. It really looks like it's glowing.

You know, some of the fluff does designate them as having African-type dark brown skin (rather than jet black). And sometimes, they're Caucasian.

When fluff is inconsistent like that, I tend to subscribe to whatever version suits me best. I prefer the African type skin because it allows for them to remain human.

Of course, Telion here is a commission, and I'll paint minis however my clients want too. I mean, if he had really wanted inhuman black skin or Caucasian Salamanders, I would have made it work.
