Even though my local store is able to host the semi-finals, there is no guarantee that they will have an even number sign up and thus each round there will be a person with a bye. I am trying to look for alternatives. Please reply with some alternative you have seen before. Also pro's and con's on the method would be greatly appreciated.

My first suggestion: Putting is an extra player that himself does not earn any points but will play the odd-man-out so they have to try and work for as many points as they can. Accept for the first round, it would always be the lowest ranked person playing the extra.

Pro: actual game played so points are earned

Con: person would most likely be playing someone that has not "qualified" for the semi-finals and thus people may whine about an "easy game." However, as I am running the tournament for the store I was going to throw in my army and definitely not pull any punches. However that makes it more difficult for me to move about the store and watch/assist in other games.

What else do you people see working?

Yeah having a ringer for the person who earns the least amount of pts each round to play sounds fine. Having to take a bye sucks. Throws off your whole game and you came to play games not watch others!

The bye or ringer game should definitely be the person with the lowest score each round after the first, and no one should get the bye more than once. Following that, it shouldn't matter a ton if they have an "easier" game against the ringer, they're not going to shoot up into the placings.
