I certainly hope they get some new toys (beside Eldrad since he's been leaked)

Seems that if you punctuate it, it comes out something like this:

All paths of fate have led us here.
We strike now, not for vengeance, but for a hope unknown until all others were lost.
The Black Watchmen will seek to bar us but we will not be denied.
Cegorach will laugh last and forever.
We make for Demesnus!

Which sounds very like a quick motivational speech before a battle. The two things that have the most potential answers are "what does he refer to when he says 'The Black Watchmen' and 'what is the "hope unknown until all others were lost"'"

Clearly most people are interpreting the Black Watchmen as the Deathwatch, although I've seen persuasive claims that it in fact refers to the guardians of the Black Library.

What would the Eldar be up to that the Deathwatch would bar them from, that the Eldar would consider a "hope unknown until all others were lost?" Something to do with the Emperor? The Guardians of the Black Library would make more sense - the Eldar are losing their war for their very existence, and perhaps contained within the Black Library they could find a way to bring forth another Eldar diety to shepherd their race back to dominance in the galaxy? That would be a "hope unknown until all others were lost," in my opinion.

However, it wouldn't make much sense from a marketing standpoint, or at least, it would be a dramatic change from the marketing plan they've used for the last 30 years - the Eldar would, for a time, become the main characters in the story of WH40K, where before it's always been the Imperium of Man. Do they have the balls to pull that off? Has western culture changed enough in the last 30 years that it will allow them to make it a successful marketing ploy?

I wait with bated breath...

Black Library guardians would not make much sense in the light of Cegorach beeing mentioned as the Black Library is guarded by servants of Cegorach and Eldrad (as well as Inquisitor Czevak for example) should get free entry anyways.
It is more likely that the Ordo Xenos has an eldar (Old ones?)artefact locked away with the Deathwatch guarding it whch was discovered by the seers recently when all other paths have lead to destruction.

I see where you're coming from, but I think that the civil war aspect of it is what makes fighting against the Black Watchmen a hope unknown "until all others were lost." To me, that implies that this was really the very last thing they wanted to try. And fighting your own people to steal knowledge that you're not supposed to have is pretty much right there.

However, as I mentioned, from a marketing standpoint, it's almost unthinkable that they wouldn't have intended the Deathwatch, since an Eldar vs Eldar/Chaos/Dark Eldar/whatever campaign would leave out the Imperium of Man and that's what sells best.

Let's hope it won't happen. Anyway, I'm so curious about possible new eldar minis (apart from plastic Eldrad).
And speaking about him, we now may assume he won't die in a future campaign/40k EndofTimes /whatever. 'Cause brand new plastic kits are not going to be squatted, right?

Asymmetrical Xeno

At least the Imperium has been written competently at times, even in general, even if it is competence in the context of military tactics that would make early-mid twentieth century USSR proud. I literally cannot remember when the Eldar were written well, even IAWhateverthehellhadMymearainit had some pretty big issues with how the Eldar behaved.

For a race that can see the future with a relative degree of certainty, they sure do step in it quite often.

I think the absolute worst instance of this was the end of the Night Lords trilogy when Jain Zaar falls for a dead-man's trigger on a grenade. I mean c'mon.... she effortlessly eviscerates an entire squad then falls for one of the oldest tricks in the book?

oh.. SPOILER ALERT I guess if you're one of the three people who haven't read the books.

Yup. Most of the time they don't even fight in a way consistent with the tactics they espouse.

The Jain Zar thing was one of the low points too, at least they retconned (I think? the famous Avatar-fisting incident with Calgar. Or did I imagine that because it was so terrible?

Eldrad and not a black guardian or warlock in sight. If he's doing something to further Cegorach's aims then I guess it makes sense that he's hanging around with Harlequins but the lack of any form of Ulthwe bodyguard is odd. I guess they really want to shift some Harlequin models.

He gets a straw out, taps his unhelmeted bro on the shoulder and says "look, theres a Hrud taking a leak in that cave over there!" and when the battle brother looks to the cave, he stabs him in the neck and has a quick drink. When the battle brother goes "ouch, thought I felt something there" the blood angel just replies saying "It's prolly just your hatred of xenos mate!" and all is well with the world.

- - - Updated - - -

also I notice the Artemis blurb mentions Enslavers! YAY! Hope there is some fluff about the Storm Wardens and their Enslaver plague encounters.

MORE ENSLAVER FLUFF. MORE.

This is from the Deathwatch supplement of the same name (yes it had a whole supplement!) :
The Nemesis Incident
In 945.M36, Chapter Master Owin Glendwyr took his forces to the Steropes Cluster in response to a reading of the Emperor's Tarot by the Chief Librarian, although some versions of the account state that it may have been at the behest of the Inquisition. The region of space had many worlds consumed by the energies of the Warp. Several worlds in the periphery had come under the dominion of Enslavers. Glendwyr had a painful choice: deploy his warriors in costly battles or destroy the worlds and their populations. In one account, Glendwyr and an unnamed Inquisitor Lord of the Ordo Xenos explored a series of ruins of uncertain origin. The Storm Wardens and an allied Inquisitorial force came under attack by Enslaver-controlled humans and later by Enslaver Behemoths. The ensuing battle cost the lives of many battle-brothers. Three worlds were cleansed of the xenos presence, but ultimately the Inquisitor Lord declared the Writ of Exterminatus on seven more before the cluster was declared purged.[1a][2b]
The Storm Wardens returned to Sacris, where it was discovered that a psychic taint from the Enslavers had corrupted a number of the First Company. The Chapter's Apothecaries, Chaplains, and Librarians attempted to remove the taint, but it was found to be too ingrained and presented a threat to the entire Chapter. The Inquisitor Lord wanted the infected to volunteer for liquidation, but the senior officers rejected it. Glendwyr proposed a compromise. Having convinced the Inquisitor Lord of its viability, the Chapter Master ordered that he and the First Company be interred within stasis sarcophagi in vaults far below the Chapter's fortress-monastery, which would not be opened until a cure for the taint was discovered. The Inquisition placed an additional demand of requiring that Sacris be isolated and all knowledge of the Nemesis Incident be purged from the Imperium's history. Deceptive propaganda of a virulent plague on the planet's surface was spread by automated beacons in orbit for years to come.[1a][2b][2c]
The sealing of the vaults caused the Chapter to lose access to the details of their founding or early history. This also resulted in the legend of the lost First Company and Chapter Master returning one day when the Chapter and Imperium are threatened, the battle-brothers seeking every chance to prove themselves in the eyes of those who will judge them upon their return. Only some of the Chapter's Dreadnoughts are aware of the location of the stasis vaults, but have taken a vow of silence, standing as mute sentinels.[1a][2c]
Only the Liber Tempest records the Nemesis Incident. This text is only available to senior officers of the Chapter, no one outside the Chapter having any knowledge of what happened.[1a][2c]

I know from using my Grey Knights that all the offensive weapons and abilities in the world don't help when you are taking damage. every model having a force weapon sounds awesome, but they still die just as easily as a tactical marine massively cheaper. Deathwatch will be the same, they kill a lot of stuff, but need to be careful taking damage back.

Indeed. Nobody finds it fun when their elite army gets ganked by a horde of gretchin.

Now, where are the damn pics of the new Eldrad? That tiny little teaser pic of the box contents has only got me more excited!

Shame more gamers don't appreciate that high points don't necessarily save you from a proper ganking off a deluge of ****ty troops!

An Imperial flyer that isn't a brick with engines strapped to it? Combi heavy weapons? All models individually armed? I've been a Deathwatch fan for years but damn this has me more excited for a new 40K release than I've been in years. It looks like it's going to make my credit card sad but me happy, so it balances out.

Only thing that would make me happier would be them releasing improved rules for Inquisitors to go along with this. Well, GW admitting Leman Russ tanks can fire their Battle Cannons and all their other guns at full BS would be the very best but I've given up hope for that.

What happens to a Blood Angel who gets the red thirst while he's part of the Deathwatch?

What happens if he goes full monty and goes black rage?

Wouldn't that kind of give up the legion/chapter's long held secret?

The Chapter will usually only second those battle brothers that can be trusted to have enough self control to control themselves or to request a return to the Chapter if they find themselves straying.

The Deathwatch RPG does have rules for what to do if it does happen though. In general it's not pretty.

preorders up on NZ site :

Eldrad Ulthran, the most skilled of the Eldar’s prophets and one of the most powerful psykers in the galaxy, whose existence has spanned ten millennia, has put into motion a series of incredible events. Descending upon the planet of Port Demesnus, his intention is to seize its crystal moon, Coheria, for a forbidden ritual capable of awakening a slumbering god…

Watch Captain Artemis – born into violence, recruited into the Mortifactors, his talents in the art of detecting and slaying the merest hint of xenos taint saw him plucked from his Chapter and sworn to lead Kill Teams of the Deathwatch. The first to respond to the distress signals from Port Demesnus, and the first to realise Eldrad Ulthran’s motives, he has diverted his strike force to Coheria.

The battle for this moon, and the events that transpire, will send shocking reverberations throughout the galaxy.

Find someone to trade with! Admittedly it might be a bit more difficult to find people more interested in the eldar than the marines.

I'm going to enjoy hoovering up a load of harlequins from people just wanting some Deathwatch. The only thing that was stopping me from picking up an army of the new models was the rather eye-watering prices.

The individual parts of just the Deathwatch side are likely going to be well above the cost of the starter box. $47 for the Dread, $40 for the Sternguard Vets, likely $30 for the named guy, and probably $50+ for the Deathwatch Vets, and $15 for the upgrade frame. Even if you sell off all the Harlequin stuff for $50 you're getting a hell of a deal. Plus those mini soft-back rulebooks are useful/easy sells.

Seems to be a separate sprue entirely - likely one that'll come in Blister Packs for augmenting Bikers etc.

It seems likely the boxed set sprue we've seen will be a formal squad of some kind - probably out next week, and designed to equip 10 troops only.

Me, I'd likely just get additional troop boxes. Everyone likes interesting spares in the bitz box after all!
