Basically what the title says. I have a growing number of demons in my collection now going just a bit above 1500pts. I was wondering if it would be possible to field a CSM army that uses lots of demon stuff and would still be semi-competitive in a mostly friendly casual club. Right now the stuff I could use for double duty would be: Bloodthirster, Fateweaver, Belakor doing duty as a winged prince, walking standard GW demon prince, about 50-ish minor demons - Flamers, Horrors, Bloodletters, Plaguebearers, and 2 Soul Grinders that I could proxy for Defilers.

My hope would be to add a squad of Obliterators and 2-3 chaos squads with Rhinos done up like Word Bearers to play with the army although I could theme it around either Khrone or Tzeentch because I have enough demons. I think with all that it would come out around 1500pts. Would that be able to compete with anything out there?

I'm assuming you'd be using the specialist daemons as proxies for the minor daemons presented in C:SM.

Using minor daemons (or indeed, Greater Daemons) can definitely be feasible. As a deep-striking troops choice, they are indeed useful for late-game objective grabbing and scaring people.

The only hitch is that they are overpriced for their statline, and are extremely fragile, so keeping them out of RF range would be important, though they are well utilized in assault against non-dedicated assault units.

Greater Daemons don't suffer the same sort of drawbacks, as they are bigger, stronger, tougher, etc. However, they are somewhat of a one-trick pony- so a good opponent would be quick to marginalize their role in the battle.

To sum up, summoned daemons in a C:SM army can be done, you just have to be careful with them and not use them as you would your regular marines.
