View Full Version : Now we have their attention....

How do?

I think it's become abundantly clear in the past few weeks that GW have had a fairly fullsome change of tack.

We've gone from super-secret-squirrel, to greater community engagement, particularly via Facebook. And they don't just post, they respond. I know it's not 40k, but their Bloodbowl page is ace - it's a reminder of just how GW got us hooked in the first place.

We've got them holding open consultations on FAQs, and even publishing drafts for critique and commentary. Add in that Specialist Games are returning (Blood Bowl, Warhammer Quest already well underway) we're seeing not just support for competitive play, but attendance.

Theres even the silliness of Regimental Standard (https://regimental-standard.com/2016/05/11/mankinds-destiny-made-manifest/)

And in the world of Age of Sigmar, we're getting a full points system as an additional way to play.

There may even be the odd thing thats slipped my mind.

But the point of this thread? We've clearly got their attention. What are we going to do with it?

I for one, welcome this change.

We're getting what many of us have been asking for and I'm not going to waste the opportunity to engage and be engaged. Plus, we need to encourage more of this behavior from GW.

Tell them nicely that while we appreciate the heavily discounted boxed sets, a bunch better way to actually attract new players is to rescind the insane/idiotic promise not to lower prices on products and go fixing their pricing scheme so they aren't trying to keep people out of the hobby. The discount boxes show they can make profit with lower prices and know the prices are an issue, it's okay to admit it and edit things to make the products more appealing to the masses.

Also, maybe give us some "gamer edition" books with 40K, something like the Grand Alliance books. Softcover, a lot cheaper, contains all the gaming rules. Would be another step toward greater accessibility.

Doubt they'll listen to those points until they affect sales even more, but eh, one could hope they'll make the games more accessible so we can have even more opponents. (And they can make more money. Everyone wins!)

Also, bring back Games Day style events. I don't care if they ever do tournaments again. Bring back day-long events filled with gaming, seminars, swag to purchase, and upcoming goodies to show off. Encourage people to report on upcoming stuff to build hype for it (which equals more sales, especially on the launch of a new set of products).

And change the website. Revert back to the old style with a bunch of articles. Stock that baby to the roof with articles. Post the painting articles from WD, or new ones, link the paints and brushes to the products, attach a bundle "buy all the paints you need to paint your new Genestealer Cult army!" at the bottom of the article. Give people content that can help them and excite them, brings them back to the website over and over, and link that stuff up to create impulse sales. (Okay, part of that's a desire on my end, part of it's the professional in me thinking of how they can make money from it without it being a callous trick. Hey, I preach this stuff to my coworkers, I should expect GW to do it too, right? It's only smart!)

Actually given me hope we might see some new aliens in the game (hopefully proper ones and not pretenders with arms and legs)

Honesty Mode.....

I've not really read the above responses. Because 8 pints.

But have the responders asked of GW? Seems now is very much the time ;) All bets are off!

So, Warhammer Fest?

Kind of, but there's nowt like that in be Colonies. For now.

Definitely one to badger them about.

They don't deserve it, the splitters.

Now would be the perfect time to get them to admit that Heavy vehicles can fire Ordnance and all other weapons at full BS. It would make my tanks happy again. :)

Actually, the FAQ they released specified the exact opposite of this. Ordnance causes all other weapons to snap fire, even on Heavy vehicles, even if you plan to fire the Ordnance weapon last.

However, two Ordnance weapons with the same name fire at the same time, so they don't force each other to Snap Fire. This makes Hellstrikes sorta-kinda useful.

Feh. Was holding out hope that since GW always has pictures of Leman Russ tanks with Battle Cannons and sponson weapons they meant them to be able to fire them all the whole time and just worded the rules badly. I guess it is true that hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

As someone with plenty of Leman Russes, I share your disappointment.

Hopefully we get them to realize that community involvement benefits everyone, and hopefully (although doubtful) get them to realize that balanced rules require less FAQs and let them focus more on supplements/campaigns and the like.

I need to find a proper email address. I think my thoughts, especially fleshed out, would be more than a simple Facebook message could handle. Probably the same old [email protected] address. Also good to send an email because then there's a record of your comments that can get forwarded or printed out and passed around if they decide it warrants other views.

Also, if those aren't eight pints of Russian Imperial Stout or something harder (if you can find anything legal that's harder in the beer realm), then eight pints shouldn't be phasing you. :p

8 pints of Harvey's Best Bitter on an empty stomach'

Okay, empty stomach might excuse you a bit. Otherwise, eight pints should be about the time the party gets started.

Doesn't seem there's anywhere close to be that has that particular drink available. Shame. Would have been nice to try. Best option to find something like that locally is World of Beer, but looks like they don't have it. On the other hand, if you see something on their menu (https://worldofbeer.com/FindABeer/Southside) that you recommend I try from the UK, let me know. I've still got gift cards from a couple years ago I need to use.

Considering you'll feel comfortably full at 3 pints of fluid and your stomach will outright burst at 8.5 pints or so, I am going to assume you mean that much consumed over the course of a day and not in one go.

An evening.

I'm a big fella, and can drink like a fish.

Heh, even though I have lots of Irish, German, French, and English in my ancestral tree and too close to 300 lbs, I am pretty sure 8 pints would likely make me beyond sick. My only experience with non-rubbing alcohol is Nyquil.

Nor have I any interest in starting. I have an addictive personality as it is, I don't need Alcoholsim added to my internal resume.

I got a sign from God that 13 pints of Guinness in one evening was too much... last one had a bit of glass in the bottom (which you can't see, because stout). Coughing up a bit of glass and spitting out blood is an uncomfortable situation. (Proprietor freaked out a bit, too, especially when she asked if I was okay and I croaked out, "No, I just coughed this up in the bathroom" and produced the piece of bloody glass. Damnedest thing is, there were no broken dishes around, so no idea where it came from.

Stopping at eight is probably a good idea.

Also, the secret is to pace yourself and make good use of the facilities.

Once got through £80 of a evening.

At £3 a pint....

Good old Nottingham :D

All about pacing...

I think I beat that one night by myself (never mind my "last night of drinks together" with a friend who was leaving town), but it was spread out over multiple locations and wasn't just beer. (It was the night my friend wanted to see me drunk enough to say whatever came to mind. I blacked out before that happened, because I was well past alcohol poisoning level and was just my usual self. Hey, I'm always honest with people, it's why so many people hate me. I also know you don't have to be drunk to dance to live music when there's a bonfire set up and fun is being encouraged. Freaking live your life and don't worry about other people judging you!)

Have to admit a bit of jealousy on that per-pint cost. Can't remember the last time I've seen somewhere with reasonably priced beverages.

At least one good thing about GW prices, it means I can't afford to drink as much. :D

Now that we have GWs attention... I think we should let them know how much beer we can put in our fat bodies.

They must know these things, so they can start selling Bugman's XXXXXXX in GW stores.

Gaming is always better with beer. Some day I hope to do a Triumph & Treachery game (adapted to either 40K or WFB) with plenty of drinks for the participants to enjoy. Backstabbing is so much more fun when people are two pints gone.
