Hey everyone,
Our rules guys have the first of the Warhammer 40,000 FAQ drafts for you guys to feed back on.
We got so many questions for this game, that we’re going to be asking for feedback on the answers one book at a time. We’re starting with the big one: the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.

Hmm, some interesting things there (have read through the second 10 images). So players can now choose to use a 3+ re-rollable over a 2+ if they think it is better for example. Also, Helstrike missiles got a small buff- a Valkyrie can fly on and fire both a full Bs, rather than snap-firing one if the other is fired. Makes them at least usable.

Can't consolidate after beating a walker in combat. Hmm.

Can only use one grenade per squad in assault. Well, there goes a lot of squads' abilities to deal with tanks (Tankbustas just dropped a lot of their goodness).

No deploying in allied transports, even if you're Battle Brothers... well, that trick's now gone (thank the Maker!).

No using Scout with fortifications... glad that nonsense got nixed.

Yeah, I'm guessing an 8th edition might not be a huge surprise at this point, if for nothing more than to clarify the rules. And that's before taking into account the arrival of new rules via DFTS.

That grenade ruling is pretty crappy. All of a sudden units that have all haywire grenades are a lot less appealing as an anti-tank alternative.

He may be referring to not being able to use battle brothers' transports which THANK GOD they finally fixed.

I was sick of seeing people put howling banshees in raiders. The good lord didn't give banshees access to an assault vehicle for a reason just like if he intended man to fly, the good lord would have bestowed us with a rocket implanted in our backsides.

Well this clears up quite a bit, though there are some rather odd decisions. There are quite a few differences between the images posted and the pdf though.

Personally I'm most happy to see that infiltrators aren't forced to infiltrate or outflank every game. And the ruling on the number of psychic powers a psyker can manifest (equal to mastery level) looks like quite a nerf to psykers in general and the librarius conclave in particular, which was sorely needed in my opinion.

That grenade ruling though... It's not like the rare few units fully equipped with haywire grenades or meltabombs were dominating games, I don't really feel like this was justified. On the other hand, it's a nice buff to lighter walkers, especially the close combat ones.

Which other 2, if you please?

The one that I saw was that passengers embarked in jinking vehicles can now only fire snapshots. This effectively kills gunboat raider squads, which aside from a few coven units and venom spam was pretty much the only thing keeping DE able to go up against literally ANYONE....

of course this new draft FAQ now contradicts the Dark Eldar FAQ in that a failed shadowfield save, subsequently bounced by FNP will no longer short out the shadowfield...

Honestly, as a chaos & DE player, I think I'm probably now ONLY a Chaos player... though I don't go to tournaments, and would never agree to play against an abusive "super-best-friends" combo army, so to me the absolute biggest change was that you can no longer koolaide man through the walls of ruins!

I have some sympathy for armies that had HW grenades as a viable AT option, except the Swooping Hawks, I'm glad they got nerfed, in fact they should have had their wings taken away, and been given really heavy shoes.

This hasn't been done as a nerf, this is an FAQ to clarify that a rule that most people got wrong because it wasn't clear. The passengers on transports should always have had to fire snapshots if the transport used it's Jink.

It certainly gives a bit more consideration to the invulnerable saves you can buy skimmers these days. Both flickerfields and holofields now are a seemingly much better value.

Collated 40K DRAFT FAQ

Why is the second question under ICs have a different answer in the PDF from the FAQ Image? Is this an editing mistake or was there an addendum to the draft FAQ somewhere else?

I think GW admitted that this was a rough draft - albeit if I released a draft document to a client in such a haphazard way I'd be talked to.

Been a while since I've played against DE as none of my friends play them.

I thought you could get them on ravagers.

The one question I didn't see cleared up, that seems to be a point of contention in my group:
Q: Is a Dedicated Transport, purchased for a unit (whatever Battlefield Role) counted as a separate unit for rules purposes (Holding objectives, kill points, First Blood, etc...)? The rules as written seem to imply this is the case, but there is no rule SPECIFICALLY stating it, so people argue.

In the description of dedicated transports in army selection it states:

"Dedicated transports do not use up any force organisation chart selections, but otherwise function as separate units"

I mean it's an annoying ruling, but it's what the rulebook says "Some grenades can be used to make shooting attacks or attacks in the Fight sub-phase, albeit to different effect. Only one grenade (of any type) can be thrown by a unit per phase."

Mr Mystery
05-08-2016, 05:39 AM
Would also mean just the one type of Defensive Grenade, which is nice.

Better than the old Inquisitor chucking out about three or four 'you lose Initiative bonus,re-roll to hit, -1 toughness, aaaaaaand all you bollocks drop off'

I'm still not sure people should be using the "first draft" FAQs for the main rulebook. I have a feeling that several of those rulings in there are a bit slapped together and will change as soon as the 2nd/andorFinal draft appears.

The Genestealer Cult is a good example of this. The Allies determination alone is sufficient to drive the Repliers crazy. The Cult is to use the Tyranids spot on the Allied Matrix. Tyranids treat each other as Battle Brothers (as if that mattered before the Cult), but the Cult is to treat Tyranids as Allies of Convenience?

But it's "fluffy," because Nids are going to end up eating the Cult eventually, and the Cult probably isn't so mindless that they don't know that. Survival instinct is still in there, and they're not going to want to get too chummy with the Nids. Also, they probably tested it out and realized using Nid abilities or attaching characters to units in the other faction led to some bad stuff.

They're "FAQs and Erratas." If they feel they messed up the first run of a set of rules, they reserve the right to edit or refine them via errata.

And the only reason they're "first draft" is because they're trying to make sure the wording is clear, not seeing if people agree.

Was literally just about to comment on the Dread and SW FAQ (but got distracted by work for a couple minutes)... The Dreadnought optional rule isn't as awesome an answer to the issue as it could be, but at least it's something, and I imagine in most friendly games it'll be allowed.

Though the idea of Murderface McMurderpants having an extra couple of attacks isn't pleasing to me.

Yeah, I saw that, and thought, "Welp... now I'm just going to hit it with even more firepower."

The biggest problem is when I face it with my Orks. Bugger challenges, so my Nob with PK, the only model that can hurt it, has to either step out of the fight or be slaughtered before he can strike. I'm going to have to carry around Meks in units just to throw into its claws. Might as well paint them up with red shirts while I'm at it...
