Mainly I wanted to get people's ideas on how to model a Tanith First and Only Regiment, but really I'd be interested to hear how anyone models their Guard in a non-cookie cutter way.

My main idea for Tanith infantry, apart from buying a bunch of metal blisters off ebay, was to combine Catachan legs with Cadian torsos and intermixing the arms, using Cadian arms for the smaller Ghosts and Catachan for the larger ones, then green stuffing around some wire mesh to make the camo cloaks.

Heads will be a bit difficult, seeing as there are references to them having and them not having helmets as part of their kit, so I guess another intermixing there as well.

This is my idea, but mind, you'd have to spend extra money per guardsmen, so you at least want to run all your Tanith as veterans or something.

Buy Warhammer FB wood elf glade guard cloaks and hooded heads. And voila, insta tanith...

I think this would make some nice conversions. But, I wouldn't use wood elf bare heads. It would give your army that anime look. Also, I wouldn't use the wire mesh to make the cloaks, I would use GS alone.

Wood Elves are a different scale. I would recommend using this (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1020004&prodId=prod1070138) and this (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1020004&prodId=prod1070135) and this box (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1110133&prodId=prod1140078). You can handswap with these models for anything else.

I said specifically glade guard cloaked heads. And actually, as long as you use a tiny amount of greenstuff, its not hard. I've been making cloaked tech guard for 6 months.

I always loved the look of Bretonnina Men-At-Arms with Cadian weapons and such, a very WWI feel to them. It'd be great for Trench Warfare.

I was thinking of doing this, and my friend was going to buy the Ork German heads from MicroArt to re-enact some WWI battles, only in 40k. It'd definitely be fun.

That would cost a small fortune and wouldn't give as much variation in models. But what do I know about variation, I play Praetorians.

Can't really help with the Tanith, but for other Regiments and general conversion fun have a look at my Getting Creative with the Guard (http://astronomican.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14204) which was also in AstroMag issue 4.
