Hello

I am painting Gold scales and I want to highlight the top of them, but I am not sure what color to highlight them with. Should I just mix some White with the Gold and use that or is there something better?

Thanks

It depends on what "gold you are using" I highlight my shinning gold with a 2:1 mix of "shinning gold and mithril silver" but don't highlight too much with it as it is easy to go overboard.

I usually use mithril silver straight. But just use a sliver of paint. You want it to represent the light source reflecting off the high points (which is usually a small area) and not a wide area.

I start by using a 50/50 mix of Scorched Brown and Shining Gold. This provids a nice rich basecoat, over which I put a highlight of Shining Gold, followed by a further highlight with a 50/50 mix of Shining Gold and Mithril Silver. Once the paint is dry, I apply a wash of Gryphonne Sepia to the golden areas. Finally, I apply a line-highlight of Mithril Silver, to pick out the upper most details.
