Hmm... I imagine the Battletome for Clan Pestilens is why the Grand Alliance book didn't include formations for them, which I thought was an odd choice, but now it makes sense. I'll have to see what those exclusive formations are before I decide to drop $25 on a book that will be 95%+ stuff I just paid $33 for.

It's quite likely nothing, but I note the Censer Bearers and Skrolk are described as resin and not Finecast.

Change in material used, or just a careful use of words. Guess we'll find out once folks get their paws on it.

And some pics lifted from the AoS Facebook group. Unsure of actual origin though.

Skeleton Horde is interesting contents wise. Mortarchs set you back £48 on their own, so it's £2 for your Skellies and Horseys.

I've got a growing Undead army made from an old Batallion, Start Collecting Malignants, and a Mortarch. Add this, and I think that's pretty much me done. Not bad at all for the price.

The Skeleton "Horde" is a bit weird as it's just 16 models, so not really a "horde." The battalion only works with Arkhan (and likely just Black Knights), so you either have to limit how you assemble the models, or skip the battalion. I know they want to show off all their big new model kits, but I think it would have been better with something like a Wight Lord and more Skeletons, especially as there are formations based on the concept of an actual Skeleton horde, and that'd give you a solid start.

The Skaven GS box is a lot nicer. Solid block of Plague Monks, Plague Furnace, and Plagueclaw Catapult. I'll be grabbing one to get the big pieces (haven't got either so far) and some more Plague Monks. You can make use of a second box to get another unit of Monks and/or swell the ranks of the first one, and make a Screaming Bell and Warp Lightning Cannon, and now you have a very solid core for Skaven.

The Skaven "army" is kind of a let down. I suppose it's a decent "savings" off the retail prices, but it's a very small force, which just feels odd for Skaven. They're a horde of chittering rat-folk running at you. But this feels like the emphasis is to push a small number of large models as the base of the army. Just doesn't "feel" right.

Also, they've used "resin" rather than "Finecast" to describe models on the website lately. I'm not sure if they're trying to get away from the name, or are actually using different material. Considering how "Finecast" deals with the local weather, I'd prefer a new material. I stopped buying "Finecast" models because they snapped ridiculously easily (even without harsh treatment!), or would just get warped way too fast if they weren't already warped. Granted, the local GW store stopped stocking many "Finecast" models, too, which might have something to do with one of the few left being noticeably warped.

Skellingtons box is a good way to get things kicked off, but also likely to be a welcome gift for many an Undead player, simply because Mortarchs might prove a smidge expensive for some - especially getting all three.

So whilst they could have gone with say, 10 more Skellingtons, 10 Graveguard and Widget, I can see where they're coming from.

But you're talking about something to aid existing players, as opposed to a "Getting Started" box. As a start, it's very lacking in the things it's meant to be a "horde" of.

Dunno.

You get a solid character, regardless of whether you take advantage of the formation, decent cavalry unit, and the bare bones of a central unit.

Any chance you could tell us(me) about the exclusive warscroll that comes in the box? Debating buying more redundancy for my rat-things.

Sadly, can't get one just yet. Computer monitor went out and I had to replace it, then a freak accident likely killed my CPU and motherboard, so my "disposable" income is going to fixing those issues (and praying that's all that got messed up). Hopefully someone else got a copy and can post it.

Have you tried kicking it?

Among other things.

I used to be an IT guy, so I have some ideas on things like that. I did stop short of using my war hammer on it.
