After a year off, it's back (https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Warhammer-Fest-Saturday-Adult)

Running over two days, Warhammer Fest returns to the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.

For clarity, this is not Games Day. I went to the first one in 2014, and it was actually pretty cool. The event was arranged by Forgeworld, and whilst there wasn't as much to see and do as its Gamesday precursors, I found it a more rewarding affair.

There were far fewer people there (yet if memory serves it sold out). This meant you could spend more time chin wagging with the Forgeworld designers about their work, and what they hoped to do in the future.

And at £20 a ticket, I reckon I'm going again this year. Not just because I can get Forgeworld stuff without having to wait but we're now looking at a company working hard to change stuff up.

It's my hope we'll get sneaky peakies of upcoming Specialist Games stuff, glimpses of plastic Heresy, and just possibly previews of what the main Studio are beavering away at. I may well disappointed on at least one of those hopes, but again for £20 I think I can take that hit, especially as the Forgeworld team are really nice people to chat to!

i do wonder with this seemingly effort to change things if they will be able to be a bit more revealing with what they are doing. Won't put too much into main studio but as you said the specialist games guys might be more open to talk too.

oh and tell them you know an amazing chap on a forum that sculpts da bestest ayleenuns evar and they should hire him :p

Not sure if its related but Lexington tells me that the FW facebook page is back.

I'm not on facebook so I couldn't verify his manic ravings.

They have indeed returned.

Right, I'm going this year. Because it's only a three hour drive and I've got mates going with.

Wonder what news I'll bring this time? First one saw me get my mitts on the Chaos Imperial Armour book, no please thousands of Chaos players online (not like that, dirty boy)

Awesome! Can I recruit you to buy me some shirts? :P

Also would be great to find out if we are getting an updated Crusade Army List this year to combine all the new stuff from books 4 and 5, plus various much needed tweaks and erratas! They did it with the Legions, now it's time to clean up the core!

Got me ticket now!

So looking forward to this!

Rumourage so far....

Free backpack for every attendee - confirmed.

First chance to get the Forgeworld 2016 event model - confirmed for Heresy (other games Unknown)

Good look at Bloodbowl - strongly suggested.

Iron Circle, and the Crusade Imperialis book - confirmed.

First play of the AoS Board Game - rumoured to me personally by the reliable Lady Atia.

Now, it's likely I may be fairly broke by the time I go, so my own spending will be limited (unless Mumsie and Daddykins Mystery front me my birthday munneh a couple of weeks early....). And I am happy to pick up the odd item for those who can't easily get to FW/GW Events.

BUT.....I don't want to be 'That Guy', loading up his basket with multiples of the goodies. So instead, the night before, I'll do another round up post of what we know is going to be there. first come first served!

And apparently, surprise treats in each bag.

No idea what, but at the first Heresy Weekender, my bag came with a natty D6, where the 1 and 6 were the Aquila and Eye of Horus.

It'll be my first go at Warhammer Fest this year, looking like a good one from what I've seen so far, in fact, I wish i'd gotten tickets to both days now! This seems to be a really great event, tons of seminars, lots of exclusive and first chance goodies and FW with free shipping, whats not to like?

From today's Forgeworld Blog. First available at Warhammer Fest:

18415

The Mechanicum Ursurax are deadly close combat units that blast into the fray with their inbuilt jump packs, smashing and tearing at the enemy with Power Fists and Lightning Claws and burning them to cinders with their chest mounted Volkite Incinerators.

Getting a bit excited for this - I guess it goes to show the effect GW's reverting to a more open nature can have.

Totes going to play Warhammer Quest as a priority, then get loads of piccies of everything.

I may even put some credit on me iPad so I can upload as I go.

Is there an event model this year?

Mr Mystery

Forgeworld have now published a blog entry to show what goodies are up for grabs (https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/blog/blog.jsp?_requestid=38119820)

Kind of tempted by the dicicles. No gamer worth their salt will ever have enough dice, or pretty enough dice. That's a fact that is. Perhaps not as well known as the fact that when you paint the last model in your collection you, but a fact nonetheless.

Nothing appears to be listed as event exclusive. Probably didn't have time to make one with all the heresy stuff they're making.

The dicicles are reasonably pretty. But I miss the funny shaped ones.

I hope they have a GW exclusive as well as a FW one, be nice to see some little surprises!

Oh and on the FW blog "Make sure you check back later this week, I hear there’s still more to come!"

I want to see what's in my bag.

So kind of the reverse of the Angelos Epithemiou position.

I know both of these facts. Over 1000 dice (at least 700 d6's) and counting, and my vast collection of models that need assembled (on top of the two shelves and multiple drawers of primed models awaiting paint) show my dedication to these time-honored traditions. :D

Event Model is the dude in Terminator Armour.

Hope I can manage an event or something, that guy would be perfect for leading Iron Warriors.

The impression that I'm getting after day one is Warhammer Fest is now a different beast again to both Games Day and the Warhammerfest precursor Forge World held two years ago. It's a lot bigger, rivaling Games Day, but the first day does seem to be about Forgeworld, Specialist Games and Black Library. I have a sneaking suspicion day two is going to be more about GW who at the moment seem to be happy basking in the light of what they've done over the last couple of years.

There was a bit more to see than the 2014 Warhammerfest, but not by much.

I think it's still a FW organised thing - but given the change of tack by GW of late, I reckon next year's will be a bigger, more central event :)

I don't think quite everything has been on display today. The software and computer game crew have been at Dreamhack doing announcements there about stuff (mainly Warhammer Total War.) I'm getting a feeling they're going to be at Warhammerfest tomorrow along with a few more of the main GW studio.
