GW Planning Contest... or Just Accidental Posting?

Was checking out the latest releases to make sure what's out before I head to the store today and came across this on the 40K page:

As you can see with the second tab, it went to a 404 page. Refreshed and it's still there. All the other stuff that should be on the 40K home page is there, it's just that you have to scroll to see it.

At the moment (no guarantees on later), you can probably still see it at:

Anyone have an idea what this is about? Possible contest? Or just someone screwed up on updating the category landing page?

In short? Each sale of £50 between now and 23:00 GMT 27 March 2016 bags you an entry.

So to have a good shot at winning, you basically have to buy an army... direct from GW, through their website.

If anyone has a local GW store and you like the manager and don't want to see him burned on sales and stuff, here's a recommendation that our old local manager would sometimes do: If the product is on the shelves, go ahead and order online, but have the order directed to the store, and pay there. Manager hands you the product now, and restocks with the products shipped in your order. You get product now, he gets to count the money as his store's sales, you get an entry in the contest, everyone wins except the FLGS a few blocks down the road. (Which, aside from needing to be a responsible adult with some bills, is one of the key things stopping me from contributing... I buy my stuff at a local store I'd prefer to see stay open, even if it means GW gets a few less dollars on each purchase I make of their stuff.)

Me? I'm torn between a Mechanicus Start Collecting, Heresy Book VI and the Deathwatch game this month (got bills to pay this month). So that's at least one entry. And the dates manage to cover two pay days.

This is all stuff is be getting regardless, so looks like at least two free entries pour moi.

And in an addendum to Erik's suggestion, you can always just buy e-vouchers in store. Local store gets the good, and you can then order whatevs, whenevs.

Was it about this time last year they did the "Win a space marines height of boxes" competition? I'd be a happy bunny if this became a regular thing, it's a good excuse to spend £50 on more models.

I wouldn't say £50 is an armyI guess he meant in order to have a good amount of entries, you'd need to invest a lot of money i.e. an army (bought in portions of 50GBP) gets you the best chance ;)

It looks as if a £100 order (e.g. Deathwatch Overkill) is only one entry, rather than two :(

Also the prizes are odd. Why would anyone choose £400 of scenery rather than £2000 of miniatures?

No idea how much one of every paint is worth though.

You can split that £100 odder into two, simply buy two separate lots of vouchers/e-vouchers.

EDIT: If they did, there would be no reason to stop at two orders. You could buy £50 worth of vouchers, use them to buy more vouchers, use them to buy more vouchers... [etc] ... eventually, buy some miniatures.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. An "optimal" number of chances would be something like five, and at that point, you've already bought at least a modest sized army.

Funny/sad thing is, when I talked about this with the local GW manager (had to stop by to get a copy of GA: Death and some Marauders), he laughed (in that way that sounds like a pity laugh) that they're their own worst enemies sometimes, because pulling sales to the online store also hurts the brick-and-mortar stores.

So, again, if you've got one nearby, and you like the store being open, direct your order through their kiosk so the manager gets proper credit.
