My tomb Kings army. I think bone is boring and wanted something different so I went with a Crystal Skull construct theme.

This is all still very WIP. I do like that the bright blueish skulls stand out. I think it is a visually interesting army to look at. I am going to custom build some chariots and several other units, but this is a decent start I have been working on off and on for about a year or so now. I saw Big Reds post and figured I would add mine to the WIP sections since one of this is finished. Mostly I am going for a decent looking army, not Golden Demon standards. I have little enough time to get my Golden Demon entries complete, so this is mostly something to work on and have fun with whenI need a break from one of my serios entry models that I have been staring at and working on for 30 or so hours.

Looking good. You've got a very nice 'gritty' feel going there. I've always enjoyed looking at a painted TK army - my favorate undead! And far more interesting then vampires!

Wow, those are amazing! I love to collect Tomb Kings even though I only play 40k and those look just awesome!

I like how you've used the one Scorpion to make two. Saves having to put together one of the fiddliest models ever.
PS, the skulls are pretty :D

very nicely done, looks much better then standard bone. Has that strange glow of dark magic.

This looks fantastic. Would you mind sharing how you do your gold please? Mine looks really fake compared to yours.

Hey there, great idea, and even better realisation, keep us informed. BTW are those weapons on Giants your conversion? If yes, how did you made them?

Howdy Guys. Thanks for the comments and I am glad you like.

To answer a couple questions,

my recipe for the gold is
base coat with a mix of Dwarf Bronze and Scorched Brown, actually the gold can be any color, its the dark brown that makes it work.

Wash with Devlan mud, drybrush with the base coat again

Wash with either a 1:1 mix of Thraka green and Asumen Blue or use P3 Turquoise ink wash.

Drybrush again with base bronze/brown color

then a thin wash of badab black. Just enough to take the shine off

then drybrush again with bronze/brown and then a final drybrush of bronze/shining gold mix.

It sounds like a lot, but the drybrush is very quick on a small area. I think it took me all of 15 seconds to drybrush 1 figure between washes so it goes farily fast.

The thing about the drybrushing that works for these models is the gritty rough look is what you want. Almost all of my TKs are drybrushed, it just looks old and gritty and like it has been under the sand for a couple thousand years.

All of the different washes are there to add age, corrosion, and shading to the models. 1 wash is not enough, but the mix of brown (natural shade), the turqupise ( weathered corrosion), and the black( age) work together very well, so long as you don't drybrush so much you cover the washes.

There is more to come, I have finally finished by Bone Giant and I am working on my Ushabatiti. I am racing to try and get the entire army done for BOLScon. 3 weeks to go!

Howdy.

With a tournament coming up I am more inspired than ever to get my army completed. I have just under 3 weeks to go, and have made some progress with limited time.

Up for review is the completed Bone Giant, one of the centerpieces of my army. I know they are not the most highly thought of choice for a rare slot, however, I love the way mine looks and that alone is reason enough to put him on the table. Let mine enemies tremble in terror of its sheer blingy-ness. Maybe not much else, but at least he will cause Terror!

Anyhoo, thoughts and comments appreciated.

Really liking the theme, those 'crystal' skulls really make the army pop imo. Looking foward to seeing more of this.
