Hi all,
here are pictures of my Tyranid Harpy WIP. I know it is only a carnifex with Balrog wings, but I think he is turning out quite menacing :)

I like this a lot, first Harpy I've seen that really seems proper, if you know what I mean?
Reckon it'd probably look good with a small head crest like the other fliers, but a very nice model nonetheless!:D

Top notch! I agree with Fantomex- this is the first Harpy I've seen that really works. It's creepy- kudos!

Thanks all for the kind words! :)

Unlike my other conversions (flying Warriors and Tyrant), I even kept to the unspoken 'rule' of Tyranids having six limbs - it might be hard to see, but the Balrog wings come from the bottom arm sockets ;)

Oh, because a Harpy isn't supposed to be that good at hand to hand combat as lets say a Tyrant (better at shooting), I've represented this with using the small Mawloc arms for the scything talons instead of the usual monstrous creature or Carnifex ones...

I'm going to try it out today in a 2250 Apocalypse game - 2 objectives, limit of 1 super heavy/gargantuan creature (my Trygon is one) against Black Templars (I think) :)

cheers,
Paul

Looks nice mate :D, smaller than mine which will be good as it tends to get shot alot no matter what cover i put it behind .

Wow! thanks :)

Are you the one who used a Trygon as the body of the Harpy? That was very nice too :)

Here are some more pictures of my harpy WIP:

The plan is to put it a bit above the building with thick wire and use the building as the base

I have now filled in all the gaps with modeling putty AND added a head crest to make it look more like a flyer too

Oh, and here is my mycetic spore drop pod WIP too:

The last one has a trygon/valkyrie base as a size comparison ;)

If you'd be so kind, I'd love to see a pic showing the leg structure more clearly. Thanks.

Hi Hellfire, I have a new picture below showing the leg structure for you :)

From right to left, the top arm hole, middle arm hole (wing), and leg hole (scything talon)...I hope this helps :)

Hi all, I'm curious as to what you think of my harpy so far with the scenic base?

I'm surprise nobody has responded yet. First of all I like the harpy, Its a simple yet effective conversion that anybody should be able to notice. The base is nice and also quite simple, using the old 3rd edition starter set terrain. However the base ( not the ruin) should be covered with more flock to hide the green base underneath. The Harpy itself could use a little wash of devlun mud, it will help create slight shadows under the carapace armor and will also help fill in recesses creating better definition. the wash will also darken your model a bit, it's a tad to bright. if you decide to use devlan mud use a upward stroke so you can get up and under the carapace joints, don't use a downward stroke it'll defeat the purpose. also if you use devlan mud on the white areas it'll create a more natural bone colored effect. Overall your model is well made and I hope this helped.:D

Hi Jiggs,
thanks so much for the positive comments and the helpful hints :)

I will have a look at your devlan mud idea, and look at adding some more flock on the base :)

BTW, the Harpy did all right in the 1850 point tournament I went in on Saturday/sunday just gone :)

It was one of only two models during the whole weekend (including my Tyrranofex!) that did glancing or penetrating hits on a Necron Monolith (didn't destroy it though, just immobilised or stopped shooting).

cheers,
Paul

Well I've been painting up my Trygon and that devlan mud has really come in handy for my kraken style paint job. I know how terrible those Monoliths are, I've never destroyed one yet:mad:
Even with firing just about evert heavy weapon at it. I've learned just to avoid it and take out all the other stuff then it just goes away. I'll try to post a few picks of my trygon so you can get an idea of what it looks like, but I gotta wait until the camera comes back my sister has it on a trip so it''ll be probably a week. you can always try a different color too as long as its a wash, I think the brown works well to give it a dirtier look though.
Also maybe add something to the tail, like the scythe tail that comes with the carnifex set, it would probably add alot to the model...

Neat, looking forward to the pictures :)

I will look at adding a scythe tail and see how it goes, thanks :)

Great looking conversion Paul. To get even more from your work I'd look at some delicate dry brushing on the harpy to bring the edges out a little. This will give the whole model more form and shape. Hope that helps.
